today at work one of my sgt's told us he read an article on marine corp times about a new GI bill.
he was talkin about you be getting E-5 BHA and basic pay, book allowance on top of the monthly GI bill allowance?
i tried finding info about it online but only thing i found was that senate already pass a bill to double the GI bill to $80,000 but just waiting on the president to sign. its any of this info correct? does it applay to current active duty or to new marines?
im a E-4/cpl active duty, joined oct 13 2004 about to get out in 4 months. and if this is true instead of goin to work for boarder patrol i would like to study, but having a wife and a baby its a little tough.
anyway any info you have about the new gi bill please post.

It applies to AD since 9/11. Look on our site for more information.

If you do decide to go work for the US Border Patrol and if your training is On the Job Training you should apply for VA education benefits. The VA pays for approved OJT programs even if the OJT is for a government agency.

Read this.
The new system will pay your tuition directly to your school up to the Max in state tuition rate for those going to more higher priced schools the VA is working on the "Yellow Ribbon" program to help finance that. This means that you will probably get way more depending on your school's tuition, than the standard $1000 - 1500 the present MGIB gives, but you will never actually see that tuition money.

You will get E-5 houseing stipent provided you are not going to an online school.

You will also get upto $1000 a year for books, you will also have 15 years before your benefits expire and you will be able to give them to your wife and children.
