I am a veteran that works for a company that provides tuition reimbursement. They do not however give an employee this benefit if you are also receiving veterans benefits, scholarships, etc. I was wondering if it is legal for them to ask if you are receiving the veterans benefits and if they can deny me the reimbursement over someone that is not a veteran. I feel like this is illegal in some way but I'm not sure if I have a leg to stand on or where to even look for an answer to this question. Thanks for any help you can provide.
They can say that they will pay only what someone else is not paying. It is not just VA, but many sources someone might have to cover tuition. They can also pay the difference between VA and the total cost.
You can still use the Post 9/11 GI bill if you want to. However, the company you work for might not like it. But from VA's end of things you are eligible for benefits as long as your employer isn't Uncle Sam. I would not think it illegal for your employer to put its own stipulations on tuition that they are paying for.
