I was in the reserves (USMCR) from 1976 to 1980. I was Active Duty from (US ARMY)1980 to 1988. Am I qualified for any GI bill benifits? Has the statute of Limitations run out on them? Thanks, Chuck W.

Not really sure, but i think you would have fallen under the VEAP program. Please contact the VA for details.

He does fall under the VEAP. I do not. I am receiving my benefits under the regular G.I. Bill, Ative duty, Chapter 30. I love it and have never had any problems receiving my benefits. I will use all 36 months up in January of 2008. Four months before I graduate with my Bachelors Degree. It's not a bad deal. The G.I. Bill allowed me to save enough money to pay for my last 4 months with no problem.

Sorry Chuck, but your benefits have run out, at least according to the recent info. You have 10 years after leaving active duty to use the bill. If not, the money is gone. I go to school with an Army veteran and he was so pissed when I told him that. He was saving the bill to get his Masters degree and when I asked him how long he'd been out he said 11 years. I said too bad. He went to the VA office and they told him the same thing.....
DOES A SOLDIER DISCHARGED general "under honorable conditions" get automatically rejected for the GI BILL even if the 3 yrs were served and the 1200 was paid? If so, are there any other options? I know general doesn't bar a soldier from health care through the VA.

Montgomery GI Bill (MGIB) Eligibility: VA education benefits may be used while on active duty or after separation from active duty, with a fully honorable military discharge. Discharges “under honorable conditions” and “general” discharges do not establish eligibility. VA
You would need to have the discharge upgraded by a Correction Board. Army Review Board. Check with your service for their procedure.
well this isnt a reply but i had a question. i was discharged with and other than honorably discharge and ive already talked to the va and like always they just told me nothing. i was wondering how do i get my money back that i put in to the bill or whatever. i put 1200 in and i want my 1200 back. if they are not allowing me to go to school then i should be able to get my money back then, right?

i paid my 1200 and served 36 months before i reenlisted. i got an honorable then. i was then discharged with and OTH 24 months later. do i lose my benefit?
You have 10 years after seperation to use your G.I. Bill benifits or loose it! But if you are from the Air Force and now the Army you can transfer it over to a spouse or a dependent. I don't understand how that only these two branches of the military are adoptting this great additions to the problem solving of G.I. Bill benifits going unused. Just looking for some type of feed back on how veterans fill about this issue at hand.
I, too, was sideswiped by the information that my G.I. Bill and Army College Fund was gone after 10 years. I don't see how they can put a time limit on something like that, especially considering we paid in and served our country. What does it matter if it is used in 3 years or 13 years?!? Sorry...still a little bitter.
Anyway, I do have a question that I have gotten conflicting answers about. If I go back active duty now (after my 10 years is up), do I get another 10 years to use the money (90 days minimum active duty)?? Some people have told me "yes", and some have told me only if you go active within your original 10 year period. Is it gone for good??
I came into the Army 10 years ago, but when I came in improcessing at basic training due to my ignorance and my financial needs at the time I denied the GI Bill. Anyone knows if there is a way for me to get it at this point in my career.

For discharge upgrades, check with your local bar association's referral service. Most cities have at least some attorneys who specialize in this, and many of them do it cheaply or even for free.
