Hi, my name is brandon daniel.. I am deployed to Afghanistan currently, and will be getting out of the army around july of 09. Which is perfect timing for the new bill. My question is I haven't been able to find any info on how they are going to handle apprenticeships now. If anyone knows if they still plan on paying a pro rated amount like before throughout an apprenticeship please let me know. Also will I still recieve the ACF that I have in my contract ? Please let me know by email if possible. <<EMAIL ADDRESS Removed by MOD>> , peace yall

Folks, most of these questions will probably have to wait. The new bill is law, but it must be codified and regulations must be written. Then they will write instructions to Veterans on what is allowed. That could take several months. I would expect that it will be the fall before the information people are seeking is available.
I may be wrong, but even in the best case if will take until the end of the summer.
They haven't yet published how the apprenticeships will be handled with the new GI Bill which will be called Chapter 33. However you don't have to elect to be paid under the new Chapter 33. You can elect to be paid under Chapter 30, the program you originally signed up for. But before you make an election one way or the other make sure you read up on the new deal and make the decision that will benefit you personally. Once you elect one benefit over the other that might/could be an irrevocable election. Good luck and keep your head down.
