GLADSTONE — John “Jack” Holm, 73, of 621 Montana Ave., Gladstone, died Sunday, Jan. 13, 2008, at the Fairview Manor in Gladstone where he has resided for the past year
Jack was born Aug. 24, 1934, in Gladstone, the son of Eugene and Ruth (Brodene) Holm. He was raised in Gladstone and attended and graduated from the Gladstone High School. Upon his completion of high school, Jack went to work for the Mead Paper Corporation. In April 1954, Jack enlisted in the United States Marine Corp, serving until his honorable discharge in 1957. At that time, he returned to Gladstone and resumed his employment position at Mead Paper. On March 2, 1957, Jack married the former Lois Joyce Soderstrom, and together the couple made their home and began their family in Gladstone. Jack retired from Mead Paper after 43 years of employment. Following retirement and throughout his life, Jack enjoyed spending time with his three sons, spending time at his camp in Stonington, hunting, fishing and watching the Green Bay Packers. He was a longtime member of the Gladstone American Legion August Mattson Post No. 71 and will be deeply missed by family and friends. Survivors include: three sons, Jay Holm of Stonington; Jody (Cathy) Holm of Rapid River and Jerry Holm of Gladstone; one brother, Eugene Holm of Gladstone; and one grandchild, Rachel Holm. Also surviving are Jack’s loving nieces, nephews, cousins and friends and his former wife and mother of his sons, Lois. Jack was preceded in death by his parents, Eugene and Ruth. Jack’s family will receive friends on Thursday from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Skradski Funeral Home in Gladstone. Military rites will be conducted at 5:45 p.m. by the Gladstone American Legion August Mattson Post No. 71. Funeral services celebrating the life of John “Jack” Holm will follow military rites at 6 at the Skradski Funeral Home in Gladstone with Rev. Jonathan Schmidt of the First Lutheran Church officiating. Luncheon will follow at the First Lutheran Church Fellowship Hall. The Skradski Family Funeral Homes of Delta County are assisting the Holm family with arrangements.
