Bill Harris passed on peacefully today 20 January 2008. The Funeral will be held at Mount Carmel Baptist Church in Cross Plains Tennessee on Wednesday, January 23, 2008. He died of cancer, Agent Orange related to his 14 month combat tour in Vietnam. Bill was 64 years old.
Corporal Bill Harris, USMC was primarily assigned to 3rd MarDiv Forward via III MAF and 5th Comm. He spent from October 1966 until August 1967 in and around what later became known as "Leatherneck Square" directly below the DMZ. Dong Ha, Artillery Plateau (later named Camp JJ Carroll), Con Tien, Cam Lo, Gio Linh, The Rockpile and Khe Sanh. Combat Operations: Prairie I, Prairie II, Prairie III, Prairie IV, Hickory and Buffalo. Corporal Harris was a communications specialist and spent the most of his tour as Radio Relay NCOIC at Dong Ha when not otherwise deployed further north.
