I had been missing his daily emails. We wrote often. I had hopes that he was away on vacation or we were just missing each other and that there was another reason he had not returned my emails.

Our mutal friend just informed me of the sad news.

I will miss him greatly...he was...my friend, even in difficult times.

Rest in Peace Hank...

TruFugazi,

Thats a very nice tribute to Capt Hank. Hank and I spoke several times over the last couple of years and I always enjoyed his candor and had no problems with him.

Zen

Oh Great Spirit, whose voice I hear in the winds
And whose breath gives life to everyone,
Hear me.

I come to you as one of your many children;
I am weak .... I am small ... I need your wisdom
and your strength.

Let me walk in beauty, and make my eyes ever
behold the red and purple sunsets
Make my hands respect the things you have made.
And make my ears sharp so I may hear your voice.

Make me wise, so that I may understand what you
have taught my people and
The lessons you have hidden in each leaf
and each rock.

I ask for wisdom and strength
Not to be superior to my brothers, but to be able
to fight my greatest enemy, myself.
Make me ever ready to come before you with
clean hands and a straight eye.
So as life fades away as a fading sunset.
My spirit may come to you without shame

The Captain was definately Old Corps. He will be missed on the Board. He was into "respect" which he richly deserved. I never had a negative encounter with him on the Board.
He definately would not back down and I've seen him banned from posting for awhile because of his sometime un-P.C.ness, but he was into being a Marine the way he remembered it.
God rest your soul Capt!

I have read the posts and am impressed with the feelings all of you had for this Man. It sounds like he served his country well and sadly that your Veterans department is a stingy as ours.

I am sure your banter helped him last a bit longer. My sympahies to his family.

They went with songs to the battle, they were young,
Straight of limb, true of eye, steady and aglow.
They were staunch to the end against odds uncountered:
They fell with their faces to the foe.

They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old:
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning
We will remember them.

F. Henry "Hank" Sabourin Sr., 71, of Woodside Drive, died early Tuesday morning, April 26th, at Central Maine Medical Center, with his family at his side.

He was born in Biddeford, Dec 15, 1933, a son of Jerome H. and Lorraine (Souliere) Sabourin. He was educated in Lewiston schools, graduated from Barstow College and also attended LaSalle University and the University of Maine.

On May 8, 1954, he married the former Rita B. Letourneau. He first spent 20 years in the U.S. Marine Corps serving his country during both the Korean and Vietnam wars until his retirement as a Captain in December 1970.

After moving his family to this community in 1973, he spent 10 years with Northeast Bank, serving for a time as branch manager and later as assistant vice president prior to his retirement. After retiring from the bank, he worked several years for Fortin Funeral Directors and some years for The Fortin Group Funeral Homes as a staff associate.

He was a member of the Holy Cross Church and was a life member of the Retired Officers Association (TROA) of Washington, D.C. and the D.A.V. He was also a member of the Lewiston Lodge of Elks, American Legion Post 22, the Franco American War Veterans, AARP, Horizons 55 and Covenant 50. His many years of community involvement included former Lewiston police commissioner, member of the Lewiston Board of Appeals and member and chairman of the Lewiston Board of Personnel (Civil Service Commission).

He leaves his wife of 51 years, Rita Sabourin, of Lewiston; a daughter, Sheila Olson and husband, Danny, of Turner; a son; Skip Sabourin of Lewiston; six grandchildren; a great-granddaughter; a sister, Priscilla Poulin of New Bedford, Mass.; a brother, Ronald R. Sabourin and his wife, Rita, of Auburn; and many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by a daughter, Suzanne Davie, in 1988; and by a son, Jerome E. Sabourin in 1991.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to the Skippers loved ones.

While ol Hank and I did not always see eye to eye, we managed to make our peace with eachother over the last year.

I will miss him and salute his effort to support his brother and sister Marines while carrying such a burden of his own health issues.

He will be missed.

Cpl. Moore
