BROOKSVILLE - Gilbert J. Jolly, 83, died Sept. 15, 2007, at Sanctuary Hospice House in Tupelo. Services will be Monday at 2 p.m. at Brooksville United Methodist Church with the Rev. Harold Carroll and Jerry Zgarba officiating. Burial will follow at Brooksville Cemetery. Visitation is today at Cockrell Funeral Home in Macon beginning at 6 p.m. Mr. Jolly was born Oct. 17, 1923, in Winston County to the late Floyd Jack and Mary Elizabeth Culwell Jolly. He was a dairyman and a farmer and worked as a resident engineer with Calvert-Spradling Engineering. Along with his five brothers, he served overseas in World War II and attained the rank of PFC in the U.S. Marine Corps. He was a founding member of VMF 115 Squadron at Beaufort, S.C. He was a member and trustee of Brooksville United Methodist Church, as well as a member of the Holiday Club and the Magnolia Club. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Sadie Kinard, Shirley Williams, Nona Jones, Mary Emma Hartness Ewing and two infant sisters; and brothers, Dan, Ralph, Cole and Sherrell Jolly. He is survived by his wife, Peggy Hodge Jolly of Brooksville; sons, Jeffery Jolly of Mobile, Ala., and Lynn Jolly of Pensacola, Fla.; brother, Floyd Jolly of San Antonio, Texas; and two step-grandchildren.
