Brothers and Sisters:

I will soon stand relieved of my watch of 20 years on the 23rd of May. As I reflect back, I can only see those great CPOs who have pushed me to my limits and have placed me where I am today, and I am greatful. Without them, I would not be where I am. I only served four years as a CPO, but I have to tell you all that they have been the best years of my career. I feel this way because of the support and friendship that the Mess has to offer. I will always be thankful for what the Mess have done for me over the years and I always be "The Chief" thanks to those who have led, guided, and trained me. Take care to all.

I remember that day well. Just remember, if you are going to get up there and talk, make notes. And if you make notes, take the time to number them. Trust me on this one.
