I am writing, with assist from SUBFOR, the first-ever submarine cookbook to be marketed to the general public.

This is my way of educating -- through submarine culinary specialists, recipes and menus -- about the men of The Silent Service who, by the very nature of their missions, protect us without any fanfare.

A portion of proceeds to go to SubVets memorial boat fund, another portion to the memorial boats that sell the book.

I'm a "family" in the submarine community as my late brother was CO, USS Salmon 573, and program manager for the testing/development/successful launch of the Tomahawk.

I dived twice on smokeboats and toured a SSN. I'm a lifetime SubVets member, an associate member of USS Cod an a member of both the USNI and Navy Submarine League. I'm retired as both a journalist and PR counselor.

Here's my request:

I've collected more than 50 food service-related quotes from former (but always) submariners.I need more quotes from CPOs, including those who served aboard SSBNs and SSGNs. Of course, quotes from "pig-boaters" also welcomed.

Quotes revolve around memorable meals or food, the CSs or mess cooks, the galley and mess deck, food storage, food for special occasions, "international" and ethnic food, etc.

I have an unused quote about Pizza/Movie Night
and various divisions taking turns making the pizza. Anyone want to use it?

Quotes include name, city/state, rate, duty for civilian understanding and the name of one boat.

Send me a paragraph. I'll put it into a two or three sentence quote, send back to you for approval.

Use this e-mail address: nanbonar#yahoo.com, changing the # to the usual symbol.

Hope to hear from you...and thanks for your service to our country.

RiverRat: Sub forum told me I'd find "bubblehead" CPOs in this forum. And I'm not "peddling" my book, which benefits SubVets historic memorial boats.

Late brother was sub CO; program manager, testing/development/successful launch Tomahawk. Probably some CPOs in this forum who were skimmers, appreciated Tomahawk and, even, gasp, submarines.

A gasp "salesperson" in a Goat Locker really should have a thicker skin. My friends? in the submersible service have no problem whatsoever slamming us "Targets" damn near every time they open their yaps. We suffer their undeserved arrogance with rare good nature.

The members of the Jules Verne forum should have warned you, you might encounter a little (good natured) flack from some of us gasp "Skimmers." I on the other hand should understand that I am/was dealing with a gasp "civilian," and be more politically correct, BUT being a retired "Skimmer" Senior Chief Hempsmith, PCness was never really high on my list of priorities.
