How does everyone like the new enlisted "Black and Tans" Uniform for E1-E6?

I favored the grey shirt/blouse myself, but am not worried about E-6 and below wearing a khaki shirt.

Do support the notion that E-6 and below need a year-round service uniform.

Somehow I suspect that they will be called "non-traditional" a few years from now and that will be the end of them. That was how they did away with "salt&peppers", A practical and pretty good looking uniform that easliy could have been worm year around.

I am sure they will look good next to the Marine uniforms.

Senior Chief

Bill, that would indeed be the medicinal elixer being used in reference to the new uniform. Big Grin

Lord help the fleet if the PC powers that be put 2 + 2 together and realize they've created a uniform combination that might be worth its weight in gold on St Patricks Day. Beer

Funny you should mention St. Patricks day (a holiday typically associated with the Irish). I seem to recall Black and Tans was also a name applied to a rather brutal British paramilitary force that was used to put down the Irish rebellions in the early 1920's. You might just get a little more than you bargained for if you used that nickname in the wrong croud.

They were, but that is their history and they're the nation that may dwell on it.

I prefer to look on the positive connotation of the name of the elixer in the pint.

Does anyone know if these uniforms will be available on the navy-nex uniform shop website anytime soon? I'm in Japan and don't want to wait until 2010 to get these. I'll travel back to the United States just to buy some...haha!

Make sure you'd be allowed to wear them in your region first. Watch the navadmins.

Nice to see that the ghost of Zumwalt still walks the halls of the Pentagon...I started off in the "utility" uniforms with the pullover maternity top (man, that was one fugly uniform)...Went to dungarees (good for one washing then the seams came apart)...Had salt and peppers, gunfighter and various other semi-dress uniforms...Was intensely proud when I was initiated and put on the khakis...Now I see that the Dress Khaki is coming back...I'm not sure if the Chiefs today have time to lead, what with having to study uniform regs all the time to keep up!

I got utilities in 79 but it was just button front shirts by then and they looked fine to me and man did those shirts wear like iron compared to dungree shirts. The pants didn't hold up to shipboard laudry as well and after about a year on my first ship I had to change to dungarees, about the time I made ET2.

Years later I still wore those utility shirts with blue jeans for working around home etc.

Still have my original black working jacket with and ET1 crow on it.

It seems that with uniforms and the Navy the only constant is change. Utilities to dungarees to utilities to coveralls for everyone now to BDU's which depending on who you listen to are supposed to be for everyone as well.

Not even going to talk about dress uniforms!

I've often wondered why the Marine O10 didn't mind buying his shirt off the same rack as the Marine E1.

What difference does make if you’re an E1 - or a 010 wearing the same khaki shirt? The rank insignia is obviously different. Who really cares anyway? This is the new uniform. Like it or not it is here it is here to stay.
