I've been searching for any info I can get on about SWCC, rating SB. I really didn't know anything about this rating until recently, and after doing research, I'm really pumped up about it. I was wondering if any SB's could shed some light on a few things.
I've found plenty of info on the training, and some of the responsibilities of this rating, but what's life like after training? Is there continual training kind of like the SEALS do? Seems like I found that they have a 60 month sea duty cycle, do SB's also tour port to port on ships like other sailors do? Or am I more likely to be deployed overseas? Thanks for your replies, I like to know as much as I can about something before I get myself into it, you know what I mean? |

Yes, like SEALs, SWCC train continuously. They train to prepare for a deployment, and once they return, they train to prepare for the next deployment. ALL deployments will be overseas.
SWCC do not deploy on ships. In fact, many SWCC have never stepped foot on a ship. Hope this helps. |

Well, because my husband is a SWCC; he's been tied to the community for almost 5 years now, but he's been in the Navy for almost 10. I like asking a lot of questions about the how's and why's. I am extremely proud of my husband. One way that I show that is by being genuinely interested in what he loves, which is being a Boat Guy. I know that I'm only a spouse and shouldn't peek my head into the men's locker room, but someone asked a question that hadn't been answered. Since I had info to share, I didn't think it would be a problem. If my posts are not welcomed here, I'll gladly back away. I understand my place and I don't wear my husband's rank nor do I hold his title. But I do like to help people out when I can, which is all I was trying to do. This message has been edited. aarrrgh Then with mixed feelings I apologize. The phrase "SWCC do not deploy on ships. In fact, many SWCC have never stepped foot on a ship." appears extreme as SWCC have to travel to deployed AO's with support and oprational gear and boats. I am not a Mil.com Mod, but I do encourage you to remain in the SEAL/SWCC/EOD Forums. |

Thank you, sb5, and no apology is necessary. With the command that my husband is attached to (and I'm sure you'll know which one I'm talking about) they have never done anything with ships, and, because of their capabilities, probably never will. I was not even considering the other Teams and their capabilities, and I should have. You made a very good point. However, I believe the OP was talking about actually deploying "on" a ship; his words being "tour port to port on ships like other sailors do", and, in that respect, I believe the answer would still be "No". I know you are not a Mod, but I see that you spend a lot of time on these boards trying to give hopefuls good information. For some of the people here, there is nothing better than having a BTDT answer questions and clear things up. And for that, I thank you. |
