Im a currently about to deploy for my first time in about a month with the Army guard. I transfered into this unit specifically for the deployment. When I am done with this tour I am more than likely going to transfer to Active duty of some sort.
Here is the issue, being a Navy Seal has been something I have always desired to do. I know I would be able to transfer to the Navy but would there be any issues being able to get a slot in bud/s being former Army?
Also if i was able to get a slot would being prior service be too my benefit or could it actually cause me any sort of problems?

Redskins Your post has holes in it.
Your in the Guard and plan to transfer to Active Duty? Which is it, Active Duty with the Guard or Enlist into what?
You cannot transfer from the Guard to the Navy without being released from your Guard contract. I doubt if a Navy Recruiter would give you but only cursory advice about the SEAL recruitment process while still in the Guard.
Prior service is neither a benefit nor a obsticle in applying for Navy SEAL BUDS training. You are just another applicant.

Your only going to be told this once scubasteve. Do not answer questions as if your an expert on these forums till after you've gone to bootcamp. Stick to the Joining the Navy forums.
USS Liberty, Never Forget.
I believe in Murrays Law, he thought Murphy was an optimist.
I am currently National Guard and about to be deployed. I am looking to get out of the guard and go into an active component. I realize that the guard would have to release me but I do not see this being too much of a problem. This is because the state I am with now I have transfered too for the sole purpose of deploying with them. Did that fill in the holes?

Thanks for coming back. But I note you have several plans. i.e. Moving to another State, Deploying with the Guard, and leaning toward SEAL application. I suggest you pick out one target and go for it. I am not qualified on mixed-wish counseling. Go see a Navy Recruiter for SEAL information that fits your multi-goal career.
Well actually im driving 8 hours for drill to the other state, and the transfer has already happened. Perhaps i didnt make myself clear. I have already transfered and will be mobilizing for active duty with the new unit with in the next three months. So the deployment is already happening its more so what is happening after the deployment when i get back. For the near future my goals and focus is on my task at hand but i must also take into account of what i will be doing when i get back.
What state do you drill in? I know it's mixing apples and oranges, but the National Guard has Special Forces units in a few states. If you're enlsited in the National Guard this seems like it would be the logical course. I've yet to see anyone get a conditional release to enlist in the active duty Navy.
