Shipmates,
Sorry to intrude but I do have a question that needs answered by a MOD or SEAL or former SEAL. I recently took a concealed carry class and one of the instructors claimed to be a SEAL during Desert Storm. Being a former Marine having served 12 1/2 years and having the privilage of working with a SEAL team and doing 2 WestPacs I naturally struck up a conversation with him during one of the breaks in the class. During the converstation he made some comments about the SEALS that didn't quite make sense. He stated he had never fired the M-60 machine gun, MP5, or M2 Browning. Of course that struck me odd since I am under the impression that these are weapons that the SEALS are proficient in. He made other comments that didn't seem to add up and his whole demeaner and the way he carried himself just screamed poser. I didn't say anything to him or call him out because being a Marine I obiviously have never been a SEAL and I don't know enough about the SEALS to ask those all to important poser catching questions. I don't want to put his name on an open forum so is there a database that is open to the public that would list the names of SEALS during the Desert Storm time frame? Also what are some questions that should be asked if I see this individual again? Maybe I should let it go but I hate posers of any kind from any branch. It dishonors those that have busted their a$$es to achieve what most are to afraid to try.

Charlie,
I'll move this to the SEAL/EOD forum. Check that forum out for some questions to ask and one of our resident SEALs will be along to help.

Here we run into a falacy of Mil.com. Members cannot communicate with each other privately unless the members go through a number of navigations that exposes a member unwillingly. Bad juju.

I concur with you not exposing your suspect poser's name in an open post as he possibly could be a SEAL with bad dialog. In reality it is almost impossible to make a lying poser own up to being a poser. I have authenticated over 8000 posers and as a general rule all of them flop one lie over another to cover their false trail. Only the use of a Data Base by a authentic SEAL or Frog can out a poser to the absolute.

But if you wish, join SOCNET and there are SEAL Authenticators there waiting to handle you via PM.

Gerry: If suggesting SOCNET is considered a "Hot Link", then douse the suggestion anyway you think appropriate.

SOCNET isn't a link unless you put up the URL SB.

Even if you did use the URL if you put quotations immediatly before and after it then isn't a hotlink and is legal here as far as I know.

example: "www.socnet.com"

One of the purposes of this website is to put out accurate information and any help we can get to that end is appreciated.

If you do decide to go over to SOCNET, please make sure you folow directions to the letter. ie: post your intro, explain why you're trying to verify the person in question, etc.
Good group over there, but attention to detail is important.

Out of respect for Mil.com allowing me the use of their Web Site let me say this only once.

I meant no comparable contest between Mil.com and SOCENT. I know it is just easier and if the querying party wishes, more private (via PM)to track a suspect SEAL poser on SOCENT.

I have been a Mod on SOCNET for many years and I assure you one Web Site does not do it all. And that is, I would not be on Mil.com if SOCNET alone filled my day.

I give Mil.com credit for many things. One being I can read the comments on Boots, Recruitment queries, and Fleet narratives that nostagicly take me back to my Fleet days. However, I do wish Mil.com would create a Private Mail system to save all this enlarged slight of hand to just to talk to someone privately.

That would make sense SB, but you have to remember what one part of our websites name is. Occasionally the powers that be here uses that same rational thought process as the military. Big Grin

Re: www.NavySEALTeams.com

All the pictured personnel on the LOTI Website are SEALs, with the exception of Chuck Habernehi whom is identified in his bio as a Marine.

I do not know who the LOTI Group is, but from the composition of the Website it appears primarily to be a DVD vendor.

The reference to "CyberSEALs" is an oddity as many years ago there was a small group of SEALs comprised under the name of CyberSEALs. I have not heard any reference to CyberSEALs in many years.

I have some wonder about all the pictured SEALs as their service dates are so far spread apart in the Teams that it is only my guess that their names are being used as eye wash advertisement, vice really being a group that functions as the LOTI Group.

Thanks, He only references the site after his supposed service. He is not featured on the web site and if the picture is recent, he aint using the DVD's either Smile
