Interesting article. Got a question the article doesnt cover. Does anyone know how far USCG personnel are going to be allowed through training? As I understand it, Coasties aren't allowed to attend Airborne School.

The article says that if they finish they will be authorized to wear the Trident Badge and it is my understanding that in order to do so, they will be required to be jump qualified.

Two links to the same article, both say that the USCG graduates will be authorized to wear the trident badge.

Is my understanding the jump qualifications are necessary to wear the badge in error?

It will take a minor change to CG Uniform Regulations. They may be authorized to wear it,but, at present the Trident is not one of the "other service" insignia authorized to be worn on a CG uniform. Should be just a pen & ink item.

I believe that they are going to be assigned to a Team, so they would have to attend any and all required training to qualify for that assignment.

Just because someones completes BUD'S does not mean they have earned the right to a Trident.
Lots more training to go before they earn the right to wear one.

Right Ken?

Boats - both the OP and sb5 linked to the same article. The following is a direct copy from that article:

"For the first time in its storied history, the Coast Guard is on track to have two of its own earn the coveted trident badge of a Navy SEAL."

If that statement is not correct then it seems that a request for correction should be pointed toward military.com.

In researching online for SEAL training curriculum what I found includes 3 weeks of jump training for officers. Since the two Coasties that are left are officers, my assumption was that they would be jump qualified upon graduation and eligible for the trident badge as stated in the article.

Again, if my assumption is incorrect, someone please correct me.

Thanks

whyworry,

I did not get off the turnip truck yesterday.

I read the article before 300_Spartans posted it on here.

NO where in the article does military.com state that Coast Guard SEAL trainees do not have to go through jump training. That was a statement/question made by 300_Spartans and NO one else, because he thinks the article should have made mention of it, because of something he thinks he understands.

Just like you, I am under the opinion that if ANYONE does NOT complete the full training for SEAL,including jump training, they can pack it up and go home.

My post(copy/paste) above was in response to BTDT's post about them being assigned to a SEAL Team and showing that at time of the Coast Guard message, was correct.

I really don't know what this back and forth is all about. There is no such thing as part-way, or an abbreviated course for anyone moving to earning a Trident.

The training for Coast Guard, now 2 Officers reduced from 4 CG Officers and 1 CG Enlisted man, is governed by NSW and such training and earning of the Trident is equal to and the same as any other SEAL.

whyworry - Your "assumptions" are based on just that, assumptions.
