SA Blakely here just sayin that after about 5.5 months of wondering what I want to do with my Coast Guard life i've decided to go with the IS rate. I think its perfect for me because I've always wanted to do something similar (such as FBI,DEA, etc..). I'm really looking forward to it. I'm almost finished with all my E3 sign offs and getting fully qualed at my current unit(CGC George Cobb). The only thing that bothers me is the apparent low number of underway units for this particular rate. I joined this Sea going service to go out to sea, to see the world. I'd much rather be out at sea than behind a desk with ac and flourescent lighting (God i shudder just thinking about that). From what i've heard theres supposed to be IS's on the newer/bigger cutters coming out such as the Bertoff ( I spelt that wrong I'm sure). I guess my question is: How long until the new cutters are out in the fleet? And if there isn't any good underway billets what land billets for the IS rate is there? Anyones help would be much appreciated Thanks in advance
Optimus Prime Welcome to the CG and your decision to go IS. There will definitely be positions on the Bertholf. Keep in mind that still much of the rate will be under flourescents and there won't be guarantees for back2back cutters. Your enthusiasm will be much appreciated and we look forward to seeing you in the field soon.
Are some IS's still getting attached to Navy Destroyers/Aircraft carriers for the Counter-intel training? I read something about three IS's (IS3, IS2, and an ISC I believe) getting attached to the George Washington (my dads old ship haha) for some cross training with our Navy counterparts?
Check out the discussion boards on CGCentral. You will get a better response to your questions there vice on this forum. Not trying to bust your chops, but these type of questions/statements (previous post about the George Washington) shouldn't be posted on a forum that anybody in the world can view such as this site.
Shoot me an email at work if you have any questions, i'll try to answer best I know. I'm in global.
