I am, I guess I should say trying to, but I haven't seen anything regarding E-6's applying going off last years OSC SWE score and placement or if that is even an option for this first year of IS and ISS. I wrote (tied) number 1, placed number 5 on the OSC list, so I know that I was in the top 50% for OSC, but does that count for the ISS application? Guess I'll have to wait and see if it gets looked at or not.

Honestly man, you got shafted on the lateral. the last person on the ISC advancement for Jan08 was like 10 spots behind me on the OSC list. I guess that is life. Violin

Unless I'm completely offbase (and I'm certain someone will educate me if I am!) only IS-types can apply for ISS. If you're an IS1 primary candidate and #15 or above on the ISC advancement list, then you can apply for ISS.
If I'm wrong, please let me know.

Hector, honestly I was happily suprised when the inital ranking results came out. Rob has more TIS than I do as well (and I think more sea time too). All I can say is, for people who dont think marks multiples and awards dont count as much as the swe scores, they should think twice. Because when they took away the SWE score, it changed things.
I remember what someone told me once during an enlisted all hands: One point on your total (marks, awards, swe exam) between you and the guy sitting next to you can mean a difference of ten spaces on the advancement list. For some reason that has alays stuck with me.

edited because I cant spell today.

KJPARK,

I agree 100%, BUT.....it's no secret many supervisors inflate marks and some units give away awards like candy. That being said, the last person on the ISC list may be the "best" ISC candidate, but has been under supervisors that didn't inflate marks and been at units where the command only gave awards if you did something really stellar.

I personally know of many 2nd's, 1st's, and even Cheif's with at least 8-10 years in that I've personally worked with. Most, if not all, fell into that second category. I can honestly say they deserve multiple awards (other than GC's) and much higher marks. Some only have GC's. That's insane when see some of people on their first enlistment with multiple awards already.

I truly believe the entire enlisted advancement process is severely flawed because of that. Until the CG as whole gets their act together and only give awards and marks realistically earned, many really good people will continue to get screwed.

Please don't think I'm implying you didn't earn them. I don't even know you. I'm just making a general statement.
