Mr. Hyatt,

If you are interested in earning a commission I strongly recommend you go to the Naval Recruiting District office near you. I believe you mentioned you are at NWU so your nearest office is here…

NRD Chicago
2834B Green Bay Road
Great Lakes, Illinois 60088

Don't go to your local Navy recruiting office, go to the NRD office, you probably will have to arrange a time to come back but at least they will see you are committed to become an officer by showing up in person.

Best of Luck to you
Matt

Reserve Judge Advocates & Legalmen
Officers

As a Navy Reserve judge advocate you’ll enjoy a challenging part-time career that maximizes your legal talents. You’ll work with professionals from all walks of life, including private practice, state and federal government, and private industry. And you’ll serve your country in uniform.

The Navy Reserve JAG Corps currently has more than 400 lawyers practicing in the fields of military justice, international and operational law, legal assistance, admiralty, and other specialized areas. They serve throughout the United States and in several foreign countries.

I know several JAG Reserve Officers.

To concur with Dave_M I also know several reserve JAG's. Both the JAG Corps and Legalman ratings are open to both active duty and to reserve applicants.

Whoever told you JAG attorneys are only active duty is not informed on the issue.

Actually most of us know a Reserve JAG AF Colonel by name and reputation. He is also a US Senator. Colonel/Senator Lindsey Graham, USAFR.

And another one is Captain Biden of the Delaware Army National Guard, who has the title General (Attorney General of Delaware) for his full time job.

And on the Navy front, Capt. Paul Hacket, a Marine Corps Reserve JAQ who ran for Congress after serving in IRAQ.
