Hello SSgt, I am currently in the Army and have a little more than 2 years left on my contract. I have spoken with a Marine recruiter however, I was at work when he called and couldn't speak with him at length. I know that since I am still active duty and technically off limits I wanted to get some information before I start to really talk to a recruiter. I appreciate anything you can tell me and hope I'm not wasting your time here because I know you're busy.
1. I am a petroleum supply specialist and I know that the Marines do have an equal to my MOS because Marines and soldiers train at the same school. However, there was about two weeks of training in which we were seperated so we could learn about our respective services equipment. If I stayed in the same MOS would I have to make up these 2 weeks or would I get "on the job" training at my unit? Also if I stayed the same MOS would this qualify me to come in at a higher grade?
2.I know that prior-service can come in at E-2 grade but would there be added advance rank for having 4 years of JROTC ?
3.If I reclassed would I just be getting the occupational field guaranteed or a specific job in that field guaranteed?
4.Would my IRR start over when I joined the Marines or would it continue from where it left off from my time in the Army? Also does my active duty time in the Army count towards retirement from the Marines?
5.How long is MCT?
Again thanks in advance for any information you can give me.
Wow ok MCT is 24 days you will only get E-2 regardless of how many years ROTC you had and yes we can guarantee a fiel but no not a specific job and no your IRR will not start over

yes the Marine corps mos is a 1391 bulk fuel specialist you probably wouldnt have to make up the 2 weeks because you did do the army school for the same mos just a different branch you would probably just get on the job training with whatever unit you went to but you have to remember that the marine corps has a air and ground side its like night and day i did both
Thanks q_et2000. The Army has air and ground also and so far I've only done ground ( Infantry and MP units) I was hoping I'd get a little experience in the air side before I got out but the chances of that happening aren't looking so good.
To justmejacky, Getting your job as bulk can probable happen. But, I don't think I remember you mentioning boot camp. Unless something has changed sense I retired, you will have to go to boot camp. You may have to do someOJT so the Marine Corps can see what you know. Then you can start pumping gas. Good luck to and don't let the boot camp part scare you away. SgtMaj JF Primm USMC(Ret)
I had posted this question on another thread and only got a reply from a National Guard recruiter so I will give it a shot here. I was discharged from the Army in 2005 for "bilateral knee pain" and since the condition has not affected me at all and I have been very physically active, just as much if not MORE than I was in the Army. My re-enlistment code was an RE-3 (by Army standards I am generally ineligible for re-enlistment for one or more disqualifying reasons, but depending on the problem a waiver can be given for re-enlistment) Is it at all possible to re-enlist in the Marines? I really want to do this! Please help me in any way that you can! Thanks so much!
Ok here is the short version! I was discharged for a stupid reason and should have never been! I have an honorable but an re 4! I feel I have a case to upgrade it so I can re enlist! I have talked to the BCNR but they said it could take 6 months to a year to review my case! Now is there anyway I can get that pushed through faster? I really want to get back in! My goal is the next 3 or 4 months! I will take any advice! Thanks Ssgt
I posted my question on Open discussions & the Marine discussion forums about getting back into the Marine Corps. I've started the ball rolling on inquiries about getting in however I have to wait on my OMPF. I faxed the request in on 23 Feb 07 but was wondering if there was a faster way I could get it done. They said it usually takes anywhere from 4 to 6 wks. I had figured that the PSR would have a better chance to request it but she that I needed to order it. I'm just trying not to have time pass by especially since this is the best time to try to get back in w/ the increase of troops in the Corps. Any help?
Hey, Miss sgt I tried to enlist in the USMC 2/14/07 when I was 34 years old. I passed all my tests, physicals, photos, age waiver, & swore into the DEP. 3 days before I was to shipout to basics my recruiter told me there was a problem with my contract. By the time everything was sorted out my birthday passed & I turned 35. Now they said I can not go. Meanwhile this was my recruiters fault. I thought that when you are in the DEP you have 365 days to leave. So does anyone know? Because I'm at a loss. I actually wanted to write the commandant or at least the USMC recruiting command for answers. Maybe some one here has a good idea maybe put me on the right path?
Did the recruiter say what was wrong with your contract? Without knowing what he's talking about, it would be hard for any of us to help you. Something doesn't sound right about this situation because even if the contract was "wrong", it can be fixed pretty easily.
Hey guys, yes, It seems I was 2 points shy to get the national call to service program. Meanwhile I have been working with him for 2 months & he tells me this now! So in a panic I say let me take the test again. The recruiter says, I can't I would have to take the age waiver again. ( I later found out this was not true ) So I then asked him let me go reserves. He then said he could not do that. ( I again found out later this was also not true )What I beleive now is he was trying to get me in on an open contract. which I did not want. I wanted USMC Infantry. Anyway by the time everything was sorted out I turned 35! & now they say I can't go! I am now thinking about writing the USMC Commandant & the USMC Recruit Command for help. I am hoping because I have passed everything I had to, being in the delayed entry program which should give me 365 days, & on top of being miss handled & "miss informed" that theres still hope. Does anyone out there have an idea of a corse of action I can take?
just a quick question here am i going about the right way to get my re-code changed through the board of corrections because when its all said and done i am going to join the marine corp. i spoke to one recruiter back in jacksonville,fl he thought its was pretty funny why i was put out the service, but he mentioned something about even with a re-4, get a letter from the mayor and it would help in a process for me as well to enlist. is this true.
