My older brother is a Marine, my younger brother is wanting to get into the military. He is not sure what branch yet, but when he tries to get information from the websites, they never send him anything because he is only 13. I'm talking about a kid who cried when his older brother graduated from the Marines because he was upset that he wasn't the one graduating at Parris Island. This was a year ago. My brother has his room done in camo and has airsoft guns that are replicas of M16s, has old World War II footlockers, and disarmed grenades along with "official" field uniforms that were bought at a yard sale.
Do any of you know where I can get some information for him, so he can start deciding which branch he wants to enlist in? If you do, or is any of the recruits can send me something or email me something, I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks.

Well, best to try groups like JR ROTC (Reserve Officer Training Corp) at your local high school.
Or groups like CAP - civil air patrol, they are an auxillary of the Air Force and do search/rescue and work much like the Air Force.
Also Young Marines, a boy scout like group that is very much USMC.
Or your states "Youth Challenge" it is normally for kids that just have problems in school and need some help/discipline, but can also be a way to learn the military mind set, most are Army Guard in scope, so try to get a balanced view if you do get a chance to go to one.

I believe the USMC, US Army and US Navy and Air Force do have public access websites. But yes, they normally cater to one that are eligible now and not in 5 years or less (by the time he can get in, the age might be 16 or less, old story).

Some basic stuff, stay out of trouble, learn what you can, if you can find a copy of the practice test for the ASVAB then take it and learn from it. Also stay away from drugs, especially LSD and like, and sadly last I heard Ritalin if you can. OR lie, but ...

Also if he does want to join, learn what he wants to do, and stick to it, **** what BS the recruiter tells you, they only tell you what you ask about, or what they need to get you in, most will not lie to you (other than say you are guaranteed to not deploy - BS everyone can deploy). If he wants to fly helicopters, then stick to it and demand it if your scores are good enough for it, but have a back up if you want. Do not get stuck on the bonus crap, you have to be alive to appreciate it, so do not go Infantry or like, unless you really like it.
If you have glasses, then be prepared to have limits, but never know there is always back doors in, I wish I had taken one myself. I wanted to fly or do electronics, I became a clerk, and I regret it still 20 years later, but it got me away from my third MOS as 11B Infantry.
Never join on the spur of the moment, or from family pressure, or cause some girl/boy finds you cute or what not.

Basically do your home work, find out what you really want, especially what you think you can put up with day in and out, and especially once you are out.. Look to the future, once you are in, it can be near impossible to reclassify as something else, unless it it become Infantry, hard to get out if Infantry once you are one. They always need someone to die and hold ground.

Yes, if you can, talk to former members and ones that have retired and find out how it was for them. Not everyone is suited for the military, and some are very well suited. Be smart, do your research and do what you can do to be happy with your joining and especially once you are retired down the road, or just out.

Made many mistakes and paid for them, and still paying for them, but hope someone can learn from my stupidity.. Still in after 21 years ARNG and USAR and IRR. USAR now..

Also, learn to if you have a problem of it, of keeping your mouth shut. I talk to much.

just go to the branches websites and when they ask for age put in that he is 17.
You can go to any recruiting office and pick up some stickers and posters for him. Recruiters have them and they are for the giving.
