Artillery brings dignity to what would otherwise be just a brawl.

We have an appointment with the Marine recruiter tomorrow. I will let you all know how it went. My son is looking now, I think it will be a toss up between us and the National Guard. The National Guard recruiter I spoke with is prior service Navy, and spent a lot of time with 1st Mar Div. The armory is just down the street, and his JROTC unit is sponsored by the HQ Co there. I know where my wife's and my heart is, but I will let him choose.

The meeting went very well. I found the Sgt to be very knowledgeable and represented our Corps very well. Now it's time for my son to do some studying so he can get his ASVAB scores up. They were OK, but not high enough for some of the jobs he was interested in. He can take it again in September. Now I need to start reading DeepRecon's PT thread. It's going to be a team effort.

I'm sure your son will do what he feels is best for him.

How many times has he taken the ASVAB?

Taken it once so far, at the begining of his Jr. year. He found the Small Arms Repairer interesting. There are 3 other MOSs in that option, so we will see how it goes.

He shouldn't have to wait till September to take it again.

He turns 17 in September, so that will actually be the official one. Or so the good Sgt said, they give it in Sept each year at his High School. He could take it if they went over to MEPS if he was 17, correct?

The one he took his JR year would count. He'd need to be 17 to take it at MEPS. I would have him take it a MEPS again. I believe they still use the paper based version at the high schools. The test at MEPS will be on a computer. My poolees usually did better on the computer version. Didn't have to waste time perfectly filling in the little bubble sheet.

I thought your son was already 17...that explains it.
