Hello,
I'm the brother of an 0311 marine soon to get out. As an older brother of afore-mentioned marine, and senior writing major (e.g. I have 3 classes left before I can graduate), I've developed an interest in joining the marines. But I will only join if one of two conditions is met: 1.) I make intel. 2.) I make officer. For the moment, intel would be a lot easier on me physically, and I wouldn't mind learning the ropes from the ground up, so to speak. The problem I've run into concerns what my recruiter has been telling me: 1.) All intel positions are full until August of next year. Can anyone verify this? 2.) The only way to trade me in what he described as a "drug deal" between recruiting stations for the MOS I want, is to have me sign an open contract. My best friend was an army striker driver for 5 years before he got out, and he and my brother concur: this sounds like BS. Can anyone confirm that this is in fact BS? Or is this indeed a legitimate way of granting MOSes. Oh, my recruiter also claims that even after signing an open contract, that I can simply not ship after MEPS. Once again, I am skeptical. However, if someone can verify what my recruiter is telling me I may look into it. But it sounds like a giant lie to me. I'm not going in just so someone can make a quota; I've speant far too much time in college for that. I've lost a great deal of sleep over this, so any help would be magnanimous. |

Select the find function. Type in mos. Read. Do the same with any other areas of interest. After having completed the above, if you still have questions ask them.
You can only be guarenteed the opportunity to train in a mos field. There must be openings in that field. Becoming an officer is an entirely different process from enlistiing. That is one reason there are topics at the top of the forum on that subject. Read them. Don't be overly impressed with yourself. |

One of the things I do, before I answer a question is use the "FIND BUTTON" Just to make sure the question has been ask and answered before. But Because you wannbe's alot time give stupid Titles for you threads(like Help, Questions, NEED HELP) and you beat around to bush and not give specifics it adds to the problem of using the Mythical Find Button. I try using it and it was difficult to find the answer. I have been on this board long enough and remember that is question has been anwsered. Remember when we answer you questions we are also answering other wannbes questions. I am not just ragging on you but letting wannabes that read this thing about their questions a head of time and realize they are not just asking questions for themselves.
Type "Infantry MOS Closed Till Oct?" into the Find Funcion and replace Intel with Infantry to get you answer. Also if you have not already done so. Pleae read the Job Field Help Thread. Read it all it answers a lot of questions wannabe's have. If you are confused on any of this than ask. |

I assume that, since you are a college senior with a writing major, what you write is exactly what you mean to say.
"But I will only join if one of two conditions is met: 1.) I make intel. 2.) I make officer." None of these conditions can be satisfied before you join. "For the moment, intel would be a lot easier on me physically, and I wouldn't mind learning the ropes from the ground up, so to speak." If you are looking for something physically easy, the Marine Corps is definitely not for you. I think we're done here. You will not join the Marine Corps. ---------------------------------------------------- Semper Fi, DeepRecon Communications Chief http://www.forcerecon.com/ |

Well now, little Turner boy. The truth is that the Marines who frequent this forum are far superior to you intellectually and in maturity level. We have earned the title. We have even earned a few degrees. College compared to Marine Corps schools is a cake walk. We graduated from bootcamp and/or TBS. We have fought the wars. We have led and trained Marines in war and peace. Obviously, from your own statement, we are physically superior. We have been sucessful both as Marines and in the civilian world. We are qualified to answer the questions addressed on this board. If you do not like the answers that is tough.
You are and will remain a true dirt bag until you grown up, if you ever do. |

HERE I COME TO SAVE THE DAY!!!!! ok bro.. here it is, your brother and his striker driving buddy are the ones full of BS, 1. an open contract is always donr the moment you join... just to join! the detatchment commander of the recruiting station gets you the job you are looking for as lond as you qualify..2. it is possible that the Intel job you want is gone! and yes deals are done to get them if available.
3. Intel isnt any easier, a Marine is a Marine you train the same and are still a basic rifleman, the Marine corps dosent need you! it can however USE you, if you go and put restrictions on your enlistment I would have to ask that you not tarnish my Eagle,Globe and Anchor, just go ARMY... the WILL take anyone.! |

Not smart to try and join under conditions... cause they will never be met especially yours This isn't a job it's a lifestyle and career if you choose so.

Writerofcode, you're writing about enlisting into a military organization which is currently engaged in a shooting war where people are dying out there. This isn't applying for a job at some local paper where you become a disinterested third party writing about other's actions during different events.
To be a Marine, especially during wartime, you've got to be totally committed to the people around you and the job you're assigned to do. Otherwise some other Marine may pay the ultimate price by losing their life because you weren't up for it. You don't really understand why the Marines around here are upset with you, do you? Everyone here has lost good friends we still love as flesh and blood Brothers and Sisters and we take EVERY Marine's life very seriously even though most times we don't even know them. Jeez Son, you don't even know or understand who we are or what we're about and you're mad at us because your words slam us like a bowling ball? You're already losing your cool here and this is a mere fraction of what war is so what makes you think you're really mentally up for the Corps as you are now? You're not stupid, I'll give you that. But you're not very street smart to walk into someone else's house and insult them either. Think hard and long before you come at people, especially when you have no real clue who they are or what they've been through. You'll find life a heck of a lot smoother, I promise you. Best of luck in whatever you do in life. Just slow down, check things out and I have every confidence you'll do alright by yourself. |

Round 2: (Read Round 1 just above this)
Ha ha ha, very poorly written but the Kid's got spunk, I'll give him that. Son, if you read this with an open mind then this whole thing is a growth experience which shows real strength of character so in reality we did help you. As for bringing dishonor to the Corps, that would be running out on our Brothers and Sisters in combat or something similiar ... NOT getting into a hassle with someone here. For us, giving up a promising career and putting ourselves in harm's way for each other is EXACTLY who we are and what we're all about. Anything less would be dishonor to us. There's a big difference between being ignorant, arrogant and very confident. First time we take incoming fire or step up against something else major like it, we drop the false bravado of the first two in a heartbeat. Total humility sets in and then we settle into being very proficient at what we do which builds subconscious competence and ultimately helps us stay alive. So you see Adam, it wasn't we who prematurely judged you, it was you who wrongly judged us after coming in here stating how you placed yourself above service to fellow Marines. That truly is dishonorable to us which is why many came at you so hard. Again, this is a growth experience so treat it as such and move forward in a positive direction that will ultimately get you where you want to be in life. God be with you as you enjoy your life's journey. |
