Hey everyone. I'm newly enslisted as of last Thursday. Anyway...I have a quick question or two. My ship date isnt for another 10 months and other kids I enlisted with seemed to have ship dates that were much sooner and some of them hadn't even graduated high school yet. I was just wondering why this was? And also has anyone here heard of the "smoke-jumper" list?
Your ship date is based on OPENINGS based on MOS availability. If you want an earlier date, work with your recruiter who MIGHT be able to work with the RSS NCOIC and the RS.
Smoke jumpers work for the U.S. Forest Service, not the military. The "smoke jumpers" jump into forest fire areas. Tough duty but most love the job.
Yeah, thats what I have gathered from the recruiters now. I found a way to leave earlier. I guess the "smoke-jumper" list is just something they use here, or atleast thats what they call it when someone can't leave when they were supposed to and need to fill the spot with someone who wants to leave early.
