Searched the forums for this, didn't find anything. Anyway, to the point.
How does this work? From what I've found, reservists do this...and they collect toys and give them out to the less fortunate. However, how does one get such an assignment?
I'm going to be in the reserves come Christmas of this year (hopefully...God willing) and I live about 10-15 minutes from a Toys R' Us. Not to mention I wouldn't mind having another opportunity to wear the dress blues.

In November, your chain-of-command will make everyone aware that it is their duty to volunteer 1 day of their time for this event for the month of December. It is a coordinated event where you either sort out the toys (by age and gender), or are handed a list where you will drive to designated pick-up points and retrieve boxes of toys that have been gathered.
You can either drive in cammis in the Hummer or 7-Ton, or in your Blues in the Gov (12-15 passenger van). You meet a lot of cool people, and have a good time.
In many locations you will find that Tots For Tots is a joint effort between reserve units and Marine Corps League detachments. The MCL also carries out support projects for deployed troops as well as other projects. There are some threads in the Marine Open Discussion forum.
I did it once. Thought it was going to be a huge bone. Instead I wound up getting numbers from about 7 or 8 smoking hot chicks....of which 5 turned out to be single mothers (looking for a meal ticket, no doubt).
The coolness of TFT really depends on where the collection station you're assigned to is.
