I have been doing some research on snipers in the USMC, however, I haven't been able to find an MOS listing for them? Do they not have a dictated MOS? How do you become a sniper in the USMC?

Gee, Golley, Whiz, bam boom. I entered sniper in the find function of this board and got 5 pages of entries regarding Marine Corps Snipers. I did not reread them since I have read them previously. There might even be an entry from Rich who was the first and maybe the only wannabe from this board to become a Marine sniper.

Join Marines with 0300 contract, hit the fleet, take the sniper indoc, prove to chief you deserve to go to school, graduate school.

Ive been in the Marine Corps less than a year and in Sniper school now. Maybe Ill be the second in a few weeks. But Ill probably be packing my bags this friday. Ugh.

Ron Mann's son spent some time as a sniper on his last trip to the Sand Box. He never had formal training prior to going, it was all OJT. He did very well from what I understand.... Applause Beer

Artillery brings dignity to what would otherwise be just a brawl.

If memory serves correct, he is a 0811. All depends on the needs of the Corps at the time.

They must be giving quick courses or OJT when they deploy because when I looked into that in 2002 artilary only could send there intel officer to sniper school. Of course needs have changed sense then. But to the OP if you are seriously wanting to try and become a sniper, my opinion is find out from a recruiter what MOS has the ability to send more Marines to the school.

What you have to remember is that most Artillery Battalions deployed as Provisional MP or Provisional Infantry Battalions. Needs of the Corps.

Right. Thats what I ment by saying of course needs have changed sense then. But that need may not be there tomorrow for them or it could be for the next 10 years. My point being that if that is his goal he should find the best path to start down to obtain it.

As for Andrew (?) great on him. Always good to hear when a Marine steps up to special duty and excels.
