I'm a poolee right now going into the Marine Corps Reserve and will be joinging an artillery unit. However, I've been looking at the mos 1371, and it seems like something that would interest me. So I have a few questions about the MOS. Any input is appreciated.
1. If I was a combat engineer, I'd drill with Company D, 4th Combat Engineer Battalion. Is this "Division"? What would I be doing in this role? Would it be more building and destroying things or would I be building signs and things like that?
2. Are CE's sent out with the grunts or are they a group by themselves, doing patrols and things like that?
this info is from along time ago, it may have changed for todays missions, the arty unit i was with had 4 or 5 engineer Marines in the unit, they did jobs like operate bulldozers to make gun pits, service and operate the generators for power in the field, and do welding jobs around the unit, r unit had 2 dozers, about 1/2 dozen lil generators, 2 big 1s, and gas type welding rigs, the big engineer unit across the road from us had all kinds of equipment like cranes, road graders, dozers, generators, decon units (field showers) and clothes washing units, im not sure how they decide what u do, r welders never touched the dozers, and the dozer guys never touched the welding rigs.
as a reserve Engineer that unit is part of 4th marine Division and yes they do go with Grunt Platoons. 1371's are diffrent we do what grunts do but with a little extra oomph.. we do Mobility,Counter mobility, fortifcation, general construction, bridge building and demolitions. you can bet that being part of 4th CEB you will learn a lot about Demolitons and Patrolling along with Specialized Demo and route, bridge, and demo recon. also Landmines play a big role as an Engineer. you might have a chance to learn the operations of the New ABV.. Assualt Breacher Vehicle. this is an Engineer Specific Tank. go to about.com and type in Marine MOS 1371 this will give you more info.
