FIELD 1800, TANK AND ASSAULT AMPHIBIOUS VEHICLE
(This occupation is for males only)

The tank and assault amphibian vehicle OccFld includes operation, employment, maneuver, and maintenance of tracked vehicles in the combined arms environment during both amphibious assaults and subsequent land operations ashore.

Qualifications required include basic mechanical aptitude and the ability to perform harmoniously with others in the confined area inside combat vehicles.

The duties involved are incident to the operation, employment, maneuver, and maintenance of tanks and assault amphibious vehicles.

Formal schooling is provided to Marines at both the entry level and at the appropriate time in career development.

Marines entering this OccFld receive MOS 1800, Basic Tank and Assault Amphibious Vehicle Crewman. After entry into OccFld 18 and assignment of a basic 1800 MOS, personnel specialize in either the M1A1 tank or the assault amphibious vehicle are assigned the 1812, or 1833 respectively.

1812-- M1A1 Tank Crewman
School Location: Fort Knox, KY


1833-- Assault Amphibious Vehicle (AAV) Crewman
School Location: Camp Pendleton, CA


1st Tank Battalion is based out of the Marine Corps Air Ground Combat Center Twentynine Palms, California. It is assigned to the 1st Marine Division.

2nd Tank Battalion is based out of the Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune, North Carolina. It falls underneath the 2nd Marine Division.

4th & 8th Tank Battalions is a reserve unit. Headquarters for 4th Tanks is located at Camp Pendleton, California, while 8th Tanks is at Fort Knox, Kentucky. Units for both reserve battalion are located throughout the United States, and fall under the 4th Marine Division, Marine Forces Reserve.

Yay for the tankers! Just got back from gunnery and made gunner in a little less than a year, from driver nonetheless. I'm pretty proud.

2nd Assault Amphibian BN- Located at Camp Lejeune, NC. Falls under the 2nd Marine Division

3rd Assault Amphibian BN- Located at Camp Pendleton, Ca. Falls under the 1st Marine Division. This BN also sends units to Okinawa in support of the 31st Meu.

Delta Company, 3rd Assault Amph.Bn- Located at 29 Palms, Ca

4th Assault Amphibian BN- Reserve Unit. HQ in Tampa Fl, with units in Jacksonville, FL, Galveston, TX, Gulfport, Ms, and Norfolk, Va.Falls under the 4th Marine Division.

Combat Assault Battalion- 1 Company of AAV's, 1 LAR Co, 1 Combat Engineer Co. Located in Camp Schwab, Okinawa.

im about to reenlist and am planning on lat moving to a tank battalion. what should i expect? will i go straight to school or to a unit right away for ojt. my jammer isnt much help so i thought id ask some actual tankers. thanks
