A little background on me first. I will be turning eighteen in less than a week and I report to MEPS on Monday. I was looking over my contracts with my recruiter for my MOS and he said he will send me down to MEPS with two MOSs. Anyway I picked Infantry and Combat Support. Combat Support was my first choice because I wanted either tanks or AAV. As I was looking at the Combat Support contract, I noticed there were lots of MOS choices that you can fall into and they included Arty, Tanks $ AAV, and then Air Defense/Air Control/Air Support/etc... Now I thought that you could get a specific field in your contract, like 1800 which I wanted. So can anyone share some light on this? It would be gladly appreciated.

That option there is pretty much the only way you're going to get Tanks or AAV's. Going active duty that is. Just pray the Corps needs Tank/AAV crewmen more than they need Arty or LAAD bubbas.
No, you will be guaranteed one of the MOS's listed under that option. The Marine Corps chooses which one. So heres the scenario, you complete Boot camp and MCT, you will be assigned as either a Tank crewman, AAV crewman, Artilleryman, or LAAD gunner. At which point you will be sent to the appropriate school to learn about and earn your MOS.
Thanks ABV, but what I meant was that LAAD Gunner falls in the 7200 MOS Option, along with other specific MOSs. So would I be guaranteed the Gunner or one of the other specific air defense MOSs like Air Control or something?

Alright the option works like this. You enlist for this option, The Marine Corps places you in one of these MOS's...1812, 1833, 0811, or 7212. Unless you breach your contract IE lied about your qualifications, cannot pass the school etc. The Marine Corps is legally bound to place you in one of those 4 MOS's and no others.
I cannot break it down any more barney-style than this. If you still don't understand this, go to your recruiter and have him draw it out in crayon for you.
