So I'm 20 years old. I want to be infantry and be active duty but my recruiter say's I have to wait a year till I can be active duty. He wants me to go reserves and then once I finish recruit training and my MOS training I can switch from reserves to active duty. Is that true? Or is my recruiter trying to fill reserve spots? Thanks for your input.

It sounds to me your recruiter is trying to fill his reserve contracts. I would wait until 1 Oct. for the new Fiscal Year to begin.

I agree with Hollywood. Every 1 Oct. sees the beginning of a new Federal fiscal year where everything generally starts fresh so I too would wait a couple of weeks and then see what jobs are open.

Remember, we're involved in a shooting war in A-Stan where Infantry is heavily committed which means there are plenty of billets (jobs) open all the time as units prepare to go, are there or are just returning.

Don't sign or agree to anything and if you're still hearing you have to wait a year, I'd find another Recruiter to speak with. If they tell you someone else is already working you, then ask to see their boss and speak with them direct.

Don't take no for an answer for anything you qualify for and be sure everything is completely listed in writing because once you sign the contract it's too late to make any changes.

Best of luck future Warrior.

Just remember that if you go into the Reserves, it could take up to a year for you to switch to active duty, maybe longer.

look gents its this easy.. the Marines have filled its quata for Infantry.. yes it's true.. how do you know you ask?? well I am a recruiter and I have been informed that we are not getting our usual quata of infantry jobs.. we generally get around 10 per year but we are only getting 4 and that is just for my office so it is true.. and I too have been told to not enlist High School Grads right now until about Jan then I can enlist Grads. only Hs Seniors are allowed in my area. the Marines have reached its plus up numbers and we just don't have the room to put grads in the pipe line yet due to the fact that they will be waiting for 6 to 9 months just to go to boot camp.. that is a long time and anything can happen in that time frame. seniors are safe they are not going anywhere for at least a year. so don't think your recriuter is trying to b.s. you he is just giving alt options.. the question is do you want to be a Marine or not ?? if so join as a reservist and then go active.. it takes around 15 to 18 months to augment but can be done. or join as a reservist and wait and see if you can Comp code change to active before you go to recruit training.. but being paitent is the key..it is getting harder to enlist now and days.. think about it if the Marines are making it harder for first term Marines to re enlist why would they make it easy for civilians to enlist..??
