10 weeks? You did not look very hard.

BTW I would fail guys like you in the sniper indoc just because. No platoon wants some self proclaimed expert who knows everything.

He is wrong at least as far as recon/sniping etc. If you want to learn general orders and bootcamp stuff that will help.

I hate individuals with "know it all" attitudes. Guys like you would hate instructors like Jo and me. I would single you out, and make you an example in front of your class, and explain to the rest of my students as "what not to be."

If you really want to impress us, do as you are told, shut your mouth, ask relevant questions that we didn't cover in class, score high on the test and practical applications, don't piss us off, and don't become a "know it all." My best students maintained a low profile and followed these examples.

When I was teaching CQB to the Navy guys in Hawaii we always had some fat PO1 tell us he already knew everything about markmanship and clearing rooms. Funny they always failed qual and were a bag of crap in a room.

Josepy is an Expert in this field and you are in his house asking him questions. Your Moms friend may have been a Marine but it does not make him a expert in Recon. You will not have a clue on what it takes until you have been there. Being a good Marine requires one to listen, get the point? I'm not saying don't read books on the Marine Corps, but clean the wax out of your ears....

I was probably the company before them, the names do not sound familiar. I had a few guys from 4th Force and know a few more.

The screening now is fairly easy. It's no longer the 48 hours of fun that it used to be. It's much, much easier. However, once you get to RTP it all changes. 10 people quit from my group within the 1st week due to pool sessions; which are a gut check and mostly mental fortitude. It is ALOT harder to drown than you think. I think it was 32 of that went and 18 of us passed. And now 5 months later there is 4 of us from my SOI company left here at BRC. I went 0311 and one day they came in the classroom showed a moto recon video and asked for volunteers. I stood up.

what 48 hours of recon screening? nowadays it's only a PFT and modified 1st class swim qual.

it's easy as **** to get into recon now.

If you are in fact a Marine, you need to fill out some credentials in your profile if you are going to post in this forum...

Sure no problem.

The statement was actually aimed at the user with the screen name cexd.

ChromeYellow - I think what you are saying is that, realistically, RPT is just an extention of the Recon Screening, as well as preparing you for BRC.

With that in mind and the fact that you are not really "in" Recon until you pass BRC, the statement by cexd:

is just plain BS.

Wouldn't you agree, ChromeYellow?

By the way, cexd never did come back to tell us how long he's been "in" Recon. Roll Eyes

My advice to Wannabes is be a Marine first, and Infantryman then try out for Recon, everybody wants to be treated like a rock star just by showing up.

I was wondering if anyone could offer any feedback or whatever on the RTP for the reservists out in San Antonio. I know you got to be in top shape before you would even get sent out there, but is there a good opportunity to work on weakness a Marine may have in the water, etc. I'm kind of limited in what I can do on my on time in the pool,in other words treading water with a brick over my head ain't happening at the pool where I work out.

I was in the RTP in Hawaii which has since moved to SA. Also while at BRC I was close with the SA guys because we had very different experiences than any of the other guys in the class.

Anyway, as it stood all types would show up. Because recruiters don't put a lot into screening guys for the Reserve Recon contracts. Almost anyone who can get through ITB can make it back to RTP. Many undesirables then get weeded out. There is time to build up, they may have deadlines now but, the method is usually to build guys up because even if they don't get the MOS they're going to be around the unit in a different MOS. Not a definitive answer but if you come to work hard and be the best then that is the place to go. Very few people enlist in the condition to graduate BRC/ARS.
