I recommend getting on CrossFit.com and checking out some of the daily workouts maybe find a crossfit gym. One of my TACT instructors at BRC is a big promoter of it and says its good ****. As far as PT and swimming...don't let it be your main focus to thinking that is how you will be successful. For example this past week "Recon Skills" week one of my team mates quit because it was 31 degrees at pendelton, raining we'd been up for 2 days with 30 minutes of sleep, it was 3 o clock in the morning and we were supposed to get to 200 8 counts but for some reason we just could'nt get it right as a class 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 104. **** NO *****ES WHOS THAT IN THE BACK DOING ITS ALL ****ED UP! YOUR BACK AT 0 AZZHOLES! Swimming did'nt really help him then, he was like "Man **** this **** this ****ing sucks" I was laughing. Get what I mean? Just have to a good attitude and you'll make it. Just my 2 cents. I'm not a Reconnaissance Marine yet so I don't really know jack **** about anything other than the pipeline but if you have any other questions feel free to ask.

CromeYellow,

Could you describe your 48 hours (?) at the Recon screening, what they had you do, and how many failed+why they failed?

Also, just curious, were you there under the UZ SoU or as an 0300 who took a shot?

Thanks

If you are in fact a Marine, you need to fill out some credentials in your profile if you are going to post in this forum...

Also, could you or other recent Recon/Recon-training Marines talk a little bit about the difference between the indoc and the screening and what you felt it took to pass, what you felt you were well prepared for and what you felt you wish you had worked on more prior to even boot camp.

Thanks.

I did not prepare for anything. I showed up and did it. And there was no way in hell I was going to not do it. End of story.

Can anyone tell me what a Recon 2nd Lt. basically does on an average day, or what his responsibilities and duties are in regards to actual Recon missions?

Recon 2nd Lt.

I will assume and clarify that you are referring to a 2nd Lt. in one of the lettered companies (a line unit) in a Recon Battalion and that you are not concerned about a 2nd Lt. assigned to the Headquarters & Service Company in the Recon Battalion, which would include admin, intel, training, logistics, food service, motor transport, etc.

A 2nd Lt. in a Recon line unit is a platoon commander. He answers to the company commander on all things that affect his platoon.

He is responsible for all missions carried out by the members of his platoon. On a platoon-sized mission, the platoon commander may act as the mission commander.

I would say that most of the time, the platoon commander is supervising one or more missions carried out by members of his platoon from the company command post.

And this is one of the (many) big differences from my time. The 2nd and 1st Lt's were out there with us on small team's. They ran patrols as often as anyone.

Although since we quite often ran 2 teams from the same plt not all teams would have an officer.

And at the time we were doing this I remember hearing that in the Army LRPs they followed the model that Deep just described.

Since it seems that lurkers can ask questions here about Recon, I would like to respectfully ask one.

Is there an age cut off for becoming a Recon Marine?

Thank you in advance for the answer.

Age limits for Recon are the same as the ones for becomming a Marine.

Just a personal question for Deep Recon: How has your personal experience in Force Recon been? I hope that's not too much to ask for Smile

I did not do HALO. I did do some skydiving back then but all of my military jumps were static line.

The training was outstanding. The Marines with whom I served were the best.

I had an added benefit of serving during peace time. Jimmy Carter had my back. No combat. I cursed him then. I thank him now.

sounds great, I am hoping to branch inf and try out for FR after ROTC(citadel) or west point. I got into citadel and I am planning on doing marine option rotc there (didn't get the 4 year from the online application, but they might offer me it there). Haven't been accepted into WP yet though.

I here the big challenge in training is the swimming, is that true? If so that's good because I've been swimming on my high school's varsity team for 4years Smile.
