Your run time is excellent. I would take a masters swim program where you can. After that find someone to train with that will take you out of your comfort zone, make you push where you are not in control of the PT.

Im signing into an 03xx contract shortly, and would be interested in learning more about Recon. Right about now I can pull a mile in 545, but about 3 miles in around 6-620, depending on the day. I can swim 500 meters in under 10 minutes. Physically I know I still have a ways to go, and I have read about the indoc process and various schools Recon Marines are required to go.

My question is what to except during BRC and what to except during the day-to-day life inside of a Recon unit.

I heard being in the Infantry for about two years before attending selection is a very smart move.

This last question is just for curiousity, but does Recon stick to MCMAP training like the rest of the Marine Corps, or have a different system?

Thanks for any answers and help.

PT is one part of the whole. I've seen studs drop because, while they can do all the events individually they can't do them one after another. Pass the screening and RTP then worry about BRC/ARS. As far as getting some leg time in the grunts, that's a good idea. The day-to-day life depends on what part of the deployment cycle you are in. It can be laid back or hell on wheels. I miss it sometimes.

I saw a video somewhere said you have to be able to swim a 500, so you might want to start swimming as well. I'm not too sure on the specifics of that test though (ie goggles allowed, time limit, etc). Anybody know the details having gone thru it?

I did, and since no one else mentioned it, I think it would ONLY help him.(Thus the purpose of this forum)

I mentioned it in my first reply. You have no experience to offer anyone anything in this forum.

Well you could go to the infantry forum and lurk and read my thread adressed to 3ForceDoc and Blackcoat.

That you could you some idea of what it was like in the past and what may be again.

103% casualities in 1967

Its a heck of a gig. In more ways that one.

And thank god for that. Hopefully we will not revisit those days or those numbers ever again. But anyone who goes in, wants that type of work, should go in knowing full well that those types of days could be upon us tomorrow.

The numbers may be smaller today. I doubt that changes the feeling you have going outside the wire or taking incoming. Or what happens when things do not work out.

Somethings never change.

That article was written by a lying, piece-of-shit poser who claims to have been in 2nd Force Recon Co. in the late 70's and early 80's.

A FOIA request on his publicly releasable records show that he was an 0311 in 3/6 and 1/3 and an 0811 in 1/12.

He has no Military Education listed in his DD214. His complete list if Decorations and Awards include a Marksman Badge w/Rifle Bar, the Sea Service Development Ribbon (I know it's deployment, but that's how it's listed in his separation papers) and the Expeditionary Medal. He was discharged as a private.

He is a con and a low-life puke and has no first-hand knowledge of anything about which he wrote in that article.

After reading his article, I find I'm merely a wet leg, third-string Alpha Company guy on the Jr. Varsity Bn. team. A mere FRA associate who can’t join the 3rd Recon Assn. because I’m not a VN vet. I think I’ll go kill myself. Frown Roll Eyes Big Grin

Thanks but remember this, we have seen thousands of kids ask about Recon/Sniper. Only 3 total have made it. You will get frustrated I promise, when you do take a break.

I asked about it once a long *** time ago I got heckled and figured it would be better just to do it. I have'nt made it yet but Im pretty damn close. I have patrolling week this upcoming week and then 2 weeks of amphibious instruction and then I graduate BRC. So maybe 4 eh?
