Right now I am not looking to get into Recon until after I have some experience in an infantry bat. But untill then, what kind of work out was best in preparing for Recon? Thanks for the info.

I was a reservist for 3 years. Got out in Dec. 05.

I'm tired of the young guns spouting off to guys asking questions about recon. Not enough "hard core" Marines are trying out.

As far as the physical fitness stuff goes. When I was a RIP instructor at 2nd Recon Bn. we would take the candidates to the pool for 2-3 hours. We had fewer injuries and far fewer ARS(recon school) drops due to PT, ruck run, etc. failures

Any problems with getting qualified guys into training is not the responsibility of this forum. Maybe you should pull from the fleet?

This forum is about Q&A, not complaints.

With that being said, if someone passed bum info feel free to wack them.

I was just curious....because that AFRSM is awarded after 10 years of Reserve affilitation.....maybe you just clicked on it by mistake...or I could be wrong....

It was awarded with an "M". The awards page doesn't have any devices that accompany any awards. Sorry for the misunderstanding.

As a former Recon Marine and RIP instructor I will answer any question anyone has about getting into Recon.

No prob. I'm not an expert on everything recon but I want to help the community. They need good people. As the administrator, I hope you noticed I changed the poll.

It's one of the most popular questions around here along with sniper and fighter pilot....

Thanks but remember this, we have seen thousands of kids ask about Recon/Sniper. Only 3 total have made it. You will get frustrated I promise, when you do take a break.

hi,
im currently in the dep and i leave during july, i signed up for the recon mos which i understand isnt a guarantee in any way shape or form. i didnt even know you could try out for Recon after soi untill they offered me that option.

1. im on track for the Marine pft, lots of push ups, pull ups, crunches, and tons of running. should i be making my goals higher than the marine pft (ie 25 pull ups, 120 sit ups..? should i be running longer or shorter distances? (right now i run between 4 and 8 miles, should i be hiking with a heavy pack for long distances? and would getting scuba certified help me at all?

2. if i make it, will i be looked down upon because i wasnt in infantry, and didnt join recon with the same amount of time and experience of others.

thank you for your time

... just kidding.

1. It sounds like you're on the right track.

Your running distance is good. How's your time in the 3 mile?

You do not need to get SCUBA certified.

2. Always do your very best and do not concern yourself with what others, especially those outside your unit, think of you.

There are no problems with the Recon Marines passing on the scoop. I'll get on the association thing.
