Hi, I am in the process of felling out the paperwork for the recruiter to do background and medical checks. the question I have is how difficult is it to get the mos that you want when going active duty? The reason why I ask this is because I am thinking the mos I want is 0621 field radio operator, however I do not want to get stuck doing something else in the comm field. any advice or info about personal experiences would be much appreciated. thanks in advance for your help.
Mr. HollywoodMarine thank you for your reply. i understand that AD contract only guarantee the field and not the specific MOS. what im trying to ask though is how likley would it be that I could get assigned the MOS 0621? Are there a lot of open slots that the Marine Corps are trying to fell up this MOS?
Talk with your recruiter. While he cannot guarantee a specific MOS, he can tell you what MOS's are short of personnel. The greater the shortage, the greater the chance of getting that MOS. So, you can influence that dice roll. Also, 0621 is the single largest 06 MOS.
Not sure if things hace changed but when I signed up in 2001 I was able to get my spot gurrented to go to Data school 0656. Granted I signed up two days after my junior year, but I am pretty sure you can join with the MOS you want. 0621 is a very easy MOS to get, its the most common out of the 06 field so you shouldnt have any issues. Good luck my best friend from the Corps is a 0621 maybe he will be your Gunny soon.
Now comes the smartazz of the group, Me! Had a MOS fell, I really don't think you would get it. However, should they be trying to fill a MOS your chances should be better. Hope this helps.......
