Firstly - I'd like to say that I've searched the Wannabe forum high and low for this, and came up empty handed. If this has already been posted, please show me the way.

Now, I'd like to start off before I ask my question and say that in no way am I the type to come here and have the "I wanna be a super-secret MARSOC Ranger dude" attitude. My priority is getting through school and becoming a Marine officer. I'm simply curious about the following regarding MARSOC.

If I had training such as airborne or diver school already under my belt from a previous duty - would that make me a better-looking candidate in the eyes of MARSOC recruiters?

I understand that very, very few Marine billets (especially officer billets) are airborne / diver qualified. I also understand that the Marine Corps isn't like Burger King ("Have it your way") in that you can request a slot at jump or diver school.

Lastly, I'm asking this question with interest in ANY type of MARSOC billet. Not just an operator job. As previously stated, it's just a curious question. I'm not making any plans for MARSOC (yet, at least), and (as you can tell from the thread I just posted regarding LAR), I'm not set on any one MOS/job.

Thanks!

No. These schools have no affect on your appearance. If you're ugly going into these schools, you'll be just as ugly after completing them.

And far fewer Marine officer billets. In fact, the only billets that require both are in the reconnaissance field. You may be able to chump your way to airborne school from any officer MOS. You won't get sent to Combatant Divers School on any attaboy unrelated to Recon.

MARSOC's main mission is foreign military training, which is tasked to the Marine Special Operations Advisory Groups - MSOAG. Marines from every officer and enlisted MOS are needed to train foreign military.

The Marine Special Operations Battalions (MSOB) within MARSOC are tasked with reconnaissance and direct action missions.

Also within MARSOC are the Special Operations Support Group (MSOSG) and the Marine Special Operations School (MSOS).

To fullfill their needs, MARSOC is looking for officer and enlisted Marines from just about every MOS in the Marine Corps.

Competition for getting into these units is wicked tough.

Go for it.

Outstanding! That's what I was hoping to hear.

Thank you for the input, sir.

Here's another question I just thought of:

Are all members of MARSOC (not just those within one of the two MSOB's) eligible for jump school & diver school?
