I'm currently a student at Brooklyn College but im looking to do something positive and get out of the studying and ******** associated with school. So im looking what it is like, and what are the benefits, and can i travel places besides Afghanistan or war places? I kinda dont plan on dying.

That would make you the first to accomplish that feat. Now, go play somewhere else, till you grow up. Roll Eyes

SBrooklyn,
Before you get your a$$ handed to you, delete this post and repost in the wannabe section. Also, consider rewording your post as it won't sit well with the Marines here. Our job as Marines is to go where the fighting is. If you don't want to do that then don't join our Corps. Plain and simple. Best of luck to you in your endeavours.

You don't plan on Dying!!!WHAT!So you want to narrow it down to the Corps or the Navy. Both of these Services lost thousands of men in WWII,again in Korea and Viet Nam.War is not safe regardless of what service you enlist.Even men in the Reserves and National Guard are not exempt. These Men (and Women) have answered the call and paid dearly. We all die eventually,The Marines can stand up and say with pride,We served with Honor, and didn't run off to Canada.Stay in School. This is too easy..... I'll let others play with you for a while about the obvious, but I want to dismantle your other little fantasy about getting away from all the other sh*t associated with school.

You have to pass a knowledge test a boot camp. Once you finish boot you got to a SCHOOL to learn your job and yes there will be tests, both written and practical application. Then you'll get to the fleet and have to take MCIs to get promoted (correspondence courses) you'll go to corporal's course, sgt's course, staff academy, all of which are SCHOOLS with (gasp!) tests and studying involved. Not to mention any advanced training for your job specialty.

I don't think the military is for you. Not the NAVY or the CORPS.

Seriously. Not one of my fellow Marines "plans on" dying but we all understand that it is a risk associated with our profession. That is not because we are Marines, it is because we swore an oath to protect the constitution of the United States. Something ever service member does. If you want to join the military to travel... don't. If you don't have what it takes to finish school, you will have a hard time in the military. Try again pal.
