I am currently an applicant who is waiting on a med consult. I have completed the physical and ASVAB. On September 2nd, I will be returning to MEPS, meet the consult, talk to the Marines advisor, choose MOS, sign contract and swear in.

My question pertains to something I read in a discussion (I can not find where I read it). A Marine replied to someone saying they are shipping with an infantry MOS in September. The Marine claimed he was lying. I did not think much of it until I spoke with my recruiter today. He said that if I want infantry I have to wait till October but he also said that he would speak with the higher ups and work something out. I am trying to ship out September 2nd, the same day as my med consult because my recruiter also said it is a ship-out date.

Is there a specific reason behind all this?

Infantry MOS's are what most male applicants want. We are nearing the end of 2008's fiscal year, and most if not all sot after MOS's are non-existent. 1 October is the beginning of 2009's fiscal year, and the new list of MOS openings will be available for the taking.

If you are dead set on going into the infantry, don't enlist just because you want to go to boot camp under an open contract or other MOS. Wait it out, I did. Use the time that you have as a civillian to better yourself and better prepare yourself for the dramatic change of lifestyle you are about to encounter.

Roger! Turns out they moved my med consult appt to tomorrow so I will find out whats going on. Thanks for the input. Although I am set on infantry, I would like to see what the Marine advisers have to say, considering my ASVAB score and previous college hours. Thanks again.

Sadly to many of us wannabe don't understand that. (This was just a general comment, I wasn't refering to anyone)

my ship date was september 22nd, my mos is 03. They just bumped me back to October 6th because all available infantry slots were taken up... So at least in NY the mos is closed.

I'm here in GA, my ship date is 20081103. My recruiter has explained to me that there is pretty much nothing available. My MOS is going to be Logistics...I asked him about infantry and he said that even infantry isn't available through November. I am definitely bummed about having to wait, but it will all be worth it!

You have two options:
1. Wait
2. Politely thank him for his service, but you're going to speak with the Army recruiter to go for a 11Bravo contract (infantry)

I have to wait ill OCT too for feilds to open up. And we have first picks on what feild we want

My Question is do you have first picks on jobs too? Because the job i want fill fast
