181...Maybe your situation will work out for you as you want.

You are in the same boat as my nephew, only you are educated. He wants to join the Marine Corps but has tattoo's all over his arms, neck, chest, back, legs. Also has a record as you do.

Have already told him not to waste his time. When I did get the call from his recruiter asking questions about him, I was blunt and honest. He's not suited for the Marine Corps or any branch of service.

Remember this is a family member.

As a Marine Corps, we are also a family. We take offense when a brother or sister screws up and casts a bad light on us. The CMC has set his policy, we all abide or we get out when our contract is up. We have active duty Marines who will be hindered by the tattoos they have. If we hold our own to such a hard standard, why should we bend to allow a civilian to enter who doesn't meet the standards?

I did not appreciate the comment the OP said regarding the other branches of the military. Why? Well, I'am an Army Vet and my late dad was in the A.F. from '41-68 and he retired as an E-8 and he sure as heck wouldn't have liked that comment either. And my service officer retired from the Navy and she wouldn't like it either.
We are in it as a TEAM. There is no one branch which is better than the rest! Mad

Offended are you? Well then, let's alert the media! Roll Eyes

Idle down there turbo - no need to get butt hurt. This is a MARINE forum, what did you expect? Sheesh.

SSG,
I have to agree with 0481 on this one. You notice not one Marine jumped on ol' numbers dudes band wagon? We all know it's a big team.

This sort of stuff works like this. Numbers dude, will be DQed from the Marine Corps, and then go running to every other branches forums saying "Fark the Marines. They DQed the best on Earth, so fark them. Now I want to join the other services (Army, Navy, Air Force, or Coasties)".

Happens all the time. Wink

There was no disrespect from that comment. If you look at the context of how it was stated...it was in response to someone telling me to join the Army, Air Force or Navy.I have the upmost respect for all the branches of the US Military but they are ALL FAR DIFFERENT and have different things to offer. My personality and goals are not aligned with the Air Force or the Navy. That is not what I want to do. I want to be an Infantryman fighting for my country. I want to be one of the first ones in and the last to leave. The Army and Marines have different types of missions and I am much more drawn to the Marines than I am the Army. So when I said F the Navy, F the Air Force and kind of F the Army...I meant FOR ME, F joining the Navy, F joining the Air Force and kind of F joining the Army ( unless that is my only option ) I think that is pretty clear if you read the context of the whole situation and not just that statement from that one post

We are in it as a TEAM but it makes no sense if your goals are to be fighting on the front line to join the Navy and be a radar operator. Likewise if your goal is to be a nuclear something or other, why would you join the army as mp? No branch is better BUT for each individual, one branch is a BETTER FIT!

No disrespect Sir but I dont think I am going to be DQ'd from the Marine Corps. I think my tattoo waiver issue is a minor inconvienance that hopefully will be cleared up this next week when I go up to S.C. I think my passion and drive to become one of the worlds finest will shine through and hopefully they will look at my characters and life acvhievement and not just my tattoos

I think you guys have me mistaken for some 17 year old kid looking for direction. Im 24. I am currently a successful Realtor. College graduate. Avid and accomplished athlete. I'm not joining looking for direction, discipline or money for college. I am looking to join because I want to FIGHT for my country. Recently my 2 dogs, 1 German Shepherd and 1 Belgian Malinois were killed. I had them since I was 17 and thats why I never joined out of high school. I would of never gave them up for anything. Tragically they were killed but it opened up an opportunity that I have always dreamed about. Serving my country alongside the worlds finest, the USMC. Not the Navy or the Air Force. Thats not disrespect to either of them so save me your speeches. I just dont want what those branches have to offer. The Army is something I definetely would join. To me though, thats choice #2. The USMC has sold me more than the Army has on themselves. Again thats no disrespect to the Army, its just about doing what I want to do. So save your speeches about this guy wouldnt like me saying this about the Navy or this guys husbands cousings wife wouldnt like me talking about the Air Force. LOL. I dont care. I dont want to hear it. Its not for me so I can say F NO, I dont want to join the Navy. F NO, I dont want to join the Air Force. If you take offense to that, then you are an over sensitive *****

No Mr 24 year old, we have not mistaken you for someone else. You are standing on your own merit and chose to come here and complain about our policy.

As Marines, and as service men and women, we have an inter service rivalry with all branches as they have the same with us. The difference is...we have earned it. We are the ones who are forward deployed while you sit back in the states working your real estate job. We are the ones who leave our family behind and go in harms way while you go out drinking with your buddies or whatever it is that atheletic real estate agents do.

You bash on comments because someone points out that they have relatives in differnet branches who are proud of their service to their country. You state you don't care if someone has family in other services....grow up. Many of us have relatives in other branches. I'd gladly stand up for one of them before a civilian who doesn't understand life in a brotherhood.

You can state you want to be the first in and last out. Our life is nothing like what you see in the movies. There is no director yelling "cut, that's a take"..blood sucks, dirt sucks, patrolling in stupid hot heat sucks, seeing your buddy die sucks. It is not a glamorous life but it is one we chose willingly and met all the requirements prior to enlisting.

So save me and my fellow brethern your speeches. Work your waiver, get the tattoo's removed, do whatever you want to do...but if you want to join...know the rules and abide by them and if you don't meet them and can't get in then continue to be an asset to society and not a liability.

Listen guys, Im not meaning to disrespect anyone or any branch. I have family that served in the Army and the Navy. I am just stating that the Air Force and Navy are not for me. I could of and probably SHOULD OF put it in those words and not said F the Navy, F the Air Force and maybe F the Army. I can see how those choice of words can be interpreted as disrespectful. The point however was to point out that those branches are NOT WHAT I AM LOOKING FOR. They may be what your relatives or my relatives where looking for, but not me. Anyways I apoligize for choosing a poor choice of words. I didnt mean disrespect to those branches or to those who have served in those branches. I am just stating that those brances are NOT FOR ME. Anyways I will be driving up to S.C Wednesday and I will keep you guys informed as to what happens with the tattoo waiver. I'm sure you dont care but Ill let you know anyways.lol =)

JD... I was just in the mood to type. Had just got back from getting dusted out 7 times by a Ch-53. Everything went well, all the Marines are safe and the cargo got moved.

Like a dumb arce, I took sunglasses instead of goggles. Big mistake. No ideal how to post pictures but I got some cool ones inside the storm. The camera gave its all and will not live to snap another day.

And yes, 181 is learning and there is hope for him...

Hence, The Few!

Not everyone can claim the title. Although you have the spirit and drive, which is commendable,
there is a saying.

"The Few. The Proud. The United States Marines."

Nor did I. But you will notice that it was a civilian who said it, not any Marine here. He's on thin ice.

You have an attitude that is going to be more of a hinderence than a help. It's sure not helping you here.

I just want to apologize for starting/stirring up a hornet's nest. And yes, I tend to take some things to heart.
And I'd like to thank all of you Marines (past/present) for your service to our country. Applause

Thanks. Likewise. In the future, just keep in mind that Marines take it very personal when someone from another service stirs our Koolaid. No harm done. Dealing with the civ who was running off at the mouth, that is a seperate issue we will deal with...

Listen guys...this is an issue I am not going to win so I would like to leave it at this. I COULD OF AND SHOULD OF used more appropriate language while conveying what I was trying to get across. Although I respect the Navy, it is not for me. Although I respect the Air Force, it is not for me. Although I highly respect the Army, I would much, much, much rather have the opportunity to prove myself in Marine Boot Camp and earn the title of Marine. That is the jist of it. I apoligize for not getting it right the first time. Obviously typed paragraphs are intrepreted as matter of fact of whats written and does not take into consideration body language, facial expressions and tone of voice so I can definetely seem how that may of seemed insulting. I can assure you it was not meant to be and I will choose my future words much more carefully. Bottomline on this whole subject is I am heading up to South Carolina later this week and hopefully everything will work out. If not, I can always join the Army and go Airborne Infantry. The reason I am really leaning towards the Marines besides the fact that alot of my friends are current/ past Marines and how impressed I am with the character the Marines I meet have is because they have a few Recon slots available right now. I totally 100% realize that just because I go in with a Recon contract does not mean I will be a Recon Marine. However it will guarantee me the SHOT at becoming a Recon Marine. The Army will not guarantee me a shot at Ranger because I have 1 misdemeanor conviction 7 years ago as a minor. So although I would be able to attend Ranger School, I would not be eligible to serve with a Ranger Battalion for 2 years or so. There are a few other reasons but I dont want to stir up a Army vs Marines, who is better discussion. This is how I see it. The INDIVIDUAL Marines make up the USMC. The INDIVIDUAL Soldier makes up the Army. The USMC does not make the Marine and the Army does not make the Soldier. Obviously in some way that is not true because DI's turn you into Marines and Soldiers but I think you know what I mean about the group of individuals make up the whole. Anyways one way or another, I will be shipping out shortly, whether it is to become a Marine or to become a Soldier. Either way, Im fighting for the same side and the same reason and will be happily and honorably fighting alongside those of the same branch and those of the other branches. Most of you probably dont care but I will keep you updated as to what happens in the coming week or so...
