Yes-Sir..
I just think its wrong to enlist soley for a athletic-program, one should enlist and only enlist in my eyes if they wish to be a Marine and to be a part of all which comes with that title - and though my mother and my boredom with school certainly influenced my decision to enlist, BELIEVE ME when I say I would not of signed my name on that dotted-line unless I truly wanted to be a Marine and all that may come with it, for good or ill. If I make it thru Boot Camp, if I get deployed, and IF I see combat, Id like to know I am surrounded by men who enlisted to be Marines, not by men who enlisted to wrestle (or in the Armys case enlisted for that big sign-on bonus).

And besides, if the only reason behind my enlistment was to get away from school and family, Id just as soon as joined the Coast Guard.

i am not a marine, nor a recruit/poolee.. i hope to be soon.. but the one thing that has always kinda grabbed me deep, was what president ronald reagan said.

"Some people live an entire lifetime and wonder if they have ever made a difference to the world, but the Marines don't have that problem..."

they dont promise u money, they promise u a reason for being on this earth..

Kennedy got a lot of us with "Ask not what your country can do for you, ask what you can do for your country."

I have always wanted to be in the armed services from as long as I can remember I always wore camo and played army games with my friends and cousins growing up. I should of joined right after highschool but i thought i should try college, did that got a degree dont like it and now i want to pursue my other dream of being one of the elite warriors who wear the Eagle Globe an Anchor with honor and pride. I am going to be enlisting soon at the end of this year after my brothers wedding. I want to be able to say I have served my country that i love and protected the people of this great nation. An finaly find something that I will enjoy. Also when i have kids i want them to say my daddy can beat up your daddy! haha.

I met a Marine who had "Killing is our business" on one arm, and "Business is good" on the other.
That was three or four years ago, and I still remember how I felt when I met him. I wanted to be able to feel like a bada$$ and be able to back it up.
I also believe that it will help me become a better person, which will give me experience in life.
I plan on getting into politics when I get out fifty years from now. I am going to be President one day, just as I am going to be a United States Marine.

I want to be a Marine because I want to get rid of bad guys, and Marines seem to do that better than anyone else. Gun

From as long as I can think of I've wanted to be in the military. When i was about 10 or 11 i saw an ad for the Marine Corps on an old videotape my dad hadHere It Is From then on I had the idea that that's what i wanted to be. A US Marine. I told my Mother and she laughed at me, told me to go to school and go to college. Years later as a Freshman in Highschool I had an opportunity to see the Silent Drill Platoon. That renewed my drive to become a Marine. Im now Fresh from school and in the DEP I ship to Boot August 18th to realize my dream. I dont want to check off the boxes in life. I dont want to be like everyone else. I dont want to waste my mind and efforts serving a soulless Corporate God and at the end have nothing to show for it. To quote from a website I recently found: "The gates to manhood are guarded by the Demons of men's souls. The true test of manhood is to slay those demons. Only then will the gates open." My demon is the fear of failure and that i dont know if im the man i want to be. I want to look in the mirror and say yeah, i did that, im a badazz. I want to know Im the man I want to be. Even when I have horrible PT days and I want to jump on a grenade cause I did so terrible and im getting my butt handed to me by my recruiter for quitting on myself, I still think of that and it motivates me to try my hardest and keep going on.

I want to be a Marine because I want to have a good foundation of self discipline, self reliance, and that poise (and no, I went into teh recruiters office without him telling me this first, without any research). I know the Marines can give me this if I work hard enough to achieve my goals. Plus the fact that the Marines are badass and I have a natuaral warrior instict in me already that I want to release and know when to turn it on and off. I was first considering the Army to fly Helos, sure Ill be flying but wont give me the direction I want. The AF...I would love to do CWX but again, not the direction I want (plus too many uhhhs from the recruiter). Now Ive got to wait till Im 18...rents dont want me to enlist or do DEP Roll Eyes

I'm an older enlistee. 27 and proud of it. I want to become a Marine as to provide a safe place for my family. I fight for my freedoms, for my democracy, for the Constitution on which it stands. My family history bares a lot of Air Force personnel, save for my grandfather's brother who joined the Corps during WWII. I want to test myself and challenge myself to see if I have what it takes to become a Marine. You don't get the title of Marine, you earn it.
Someone once said that in most other branches of military when asked if you are currently or have been in the military the responses are usually, I was in this or I am in that. With the Marines the response usually is I am a Marine now, or I am a Marine that served...
I know I'll be 'pappy' or 'old timer' in boot, but when I emerge at graduation, a Marine I will become and fight for my country; I will do so till my last breath.

I get asked this question a lot, and the best answer I have been able to come up with is:

The Army promised me money.
The Navy promised me I wouldn't be sent to Iraq.
The Air Force promised me I it would be easy.

The Marines promised nothing but a lifetime of honor and sacrifice.

I'll take the Marines.

(All of the other services promised me those things. I think the most pathetic was the Air Force recruiter, he kept pushing the easy idea. Some people just don't understand.)

Yup, when i was talking to the Army recruiter he always kept b!tch!ng to me not to join the Corps because:
*Army gets promoted faster
*Marines don't give out bonuses like the Army
*Army has more jobs
*Army has more schools(Airborne, Ranger, etc)
*blah blah blah

First of all, i'm not joining to get promoted faster than anyone else. Second of all, i'm not in for the money. Third of all, i'm only interested in one job and that's Infantry, so all other jobs don't really matter to me, and I could care less how many other jobs there is. Lastly, i'm not interested in becoming a Paratrooper nor a Ranger, so i don't really care about those schools.

The Marine recruiter just told me "If you wanna be a Marine and be with the best, come with me", so i said ok. Big Grin

There are many reasons why I want to become a Marine. I want to provide better for my family. I am stuck in a crap job with a degree I simply cannot use at this juncture of my life. I have a daughter who is just over 6 months old now, and the thought of people such as the Taliban and Al-Queda enfuriate me. That they would destroy us and our way of life if they had the chance is a great motivating factor in wanting to be a part of their doom. I want to serve my country, but I don't just want to sit on a boat playing DS (like the Navy Recruiter told me he did), and I don't want to train coed (like I read that they do in the Army). I want to be one of the best. I want to have the best training to face tremendous obstacles and either leap over them, or just run straight through them. I have always been a natural leader and seek to lead the best in the world into battle, into serving our country, into delivering relief to those in need, into whatever might get thrown in our face because simply put- we can handle it. I know I am not that man yet, but I have the determination to be that man, and am taking the steps necessary to step into the role of United States Marine.
I am trying to get into OCS for October, but if I don't make it in then, you can rest assured that I will be freezing in the quigley in January.
