I'm sure this question has already been answered, but my search engine wouldn't work. I"m 22, and after being denied by the army on numerous occasions because of colorblindness, i've been looking at the marines. i know that i can be infantry and be colorblind. i also know that i can't be recon. my questions are, can i be an officer? can i go to airborne school? can i even be promoted from basic infantryman? say to squad/platoon leader? the recruiters i have talked with have been unable to answer these questions, was curious if any of you guys would be able to. Thanks in advance for any help you guys can give.

Dependeing on the extend of your colorblindness, you might come across the same problems with us. i know that i can be infantry and be colorblind. i also know that i can't be recon. my questions are, can i be an officer? Probably not. can i go to airborne school? We call it "Jump School," and probably not. can i even be promoted from basic infantryman? say to squad/platoon leader? Fire team leader, Squad leader, yes. As for "Platoon Leader," that is an Army term for Platoon Commander, which are commissioned officers.

Yes, you can be in Corps. You will not be allowed to do anything that deals with electronics (the wires are colored).

True, but I'm colorblind (bad!) and was an 0352. I just stretched the truth a bit when the instructors at T.O.W. school asked me. Wink

Negative, never had a problem with it. The thermal scope would show either black or shades of red, depending on the temperature of a tank, human, etc. If I thought I would be endangering lives , I would not have done it. Unless the thermal scope has changed, I don't think colorblindness should be a factor. My opinion of course.

I'm not sure if everyone understands colorblindness or not. I can see every color that every joe blow can see, it's just my brain cannot differentiate (sp?) between certain shades of primary colors. Ex: Blue, sometimes its hard for me to tell what purple, aqua, etc. are. As far as the thermal sight on the T.O.W. the brighter the red, the hotter the target. The darker the red, the target is cooler, etc. So it's not really a problem of colorblindness.
