I'll be choosing my MOS today and I'm trying to get an idea of what a couple different jobs would be like. I realize my recruiter could just as easily give me an explanation, but he tries to make every job sound real exciting, so I think he just wants me to hurry up and decide already. So I'm looking for an non-biased description, I guess.
I've been looking at 0200 (Intelligence). What would an entry-level position do in this? Like the daily activities.
The other field that I was checking out is 0400 Logistics. Same thing here, what goes on daily for someone who just got in?
I didn't see any forums for intelligence 02's or logistics 04's so I'll relay what I saw both do in my infantry battalion. This is probably not typical but will at least give you somewhat of an idea what they do in some type units.
04 Logistics Bubbas are basically office workers, warehousemen and supply administration types who receive, store and process beans bullets and bandages to keep everyone moving. Basically they process paperwork, stock and ship whatever is needed to where it needs to be. Then of course there are the people who sling load supplies under helicopters or rig them for parachute delivery from transport aircraft.
02 Intel is its own world where you have everything from human, electronic and sensor gathered data which they compile to come up with an overall picture. Even though they get a bad rap, they're really pretty good at what they do even though at times we joke they're throwing darts at a preprogrammed board to see what answer they'll guess to give us.
A normal day in garrison for an infantry unit's 02's & 04's was morning PT, work in the office, noon chow, afternoon in the office and then free time from 3:30-4:00 pm. In the field 04's ran supply points and pushed what we needed to us while 02's questioned the civilian populations and prisoners to try and put an accurate picture together about what was going on within our area.
Always remember to stick with what your Recruiter tells you because they're always the definitive answer. Again, this is just one application of 02's and 04's so this should not be viewed as anything near a complete answer to your question. Hope this helps.
Well I ended up choosing logistics since the Intelligence opening had filled up. After reading your description of 04, I think I'm going to try to switch it again. I haven't signed my new contract yet, so I think it shouldn't be a problem.
My other options are Artillery or a crew chief, I forgot what it was called.
Logistics is a good field because they do everything from planning to execution. It will be a great start for a civilian career whenever you get out. But do what you feel is right and comfortable because youj're the one who has to walk in your boots. Best of luck in whatever you choose.
If you go to the Intel field expect a deep and complete background check. My Stepdaughter went through this 10 years ago. If there is something lurking they will likely find it......
artillery was a fun job. And very god complexing. Being in FDC (fire direction control) having control of 6 (18 if up at the BN) howitzers and when they bring there "death rain" can at times be awe inspiring. In the FDC basicly you take the information on the target from the FO (foward observer) and figure out how much powder needs to be used and what direction and angle the gun tubes need to be pass that to the cannoners and then tell them when to fire. It can be stressful because you have to be fast and acurate. The longer it takes the more usless to the grunts you are and as my gunny used to tell us "I might as well stab you with my ka-bar my self because that is what will happen to them". And if your not acurite you will not be of any use to them because you wont bring rounds on the enemy and at worse you end up dropping on your fellow Marines and you certainly do not want that.
