I've heard that one can graduate from boot camp as a PFC. Ever since I heard this, I am determined to do so.
Does anyone have any suggestions for me? Your response is much appreciated. Smile

There are a few ways to be a PFC. 15 units of college is one, another is to recruit 2 people into the Marine Corps. I don't know if they still offer PFC for JROTC or Sea Cadets, but when I went in they did.
There are meritorious promotion at the end of boot camp, such as being the platoon, series or company honorman. If you are a contract PFC (see the 1st paragraph) there is a possibility of graduating as a Lance Corporal. Roughly 10 percent of the graduating platoon gets meritorious PFC but this is at the Senior Drill Instructor's descretion.
Talk to a recruiter and get your questions answered.

Thanks! Smile

I actually got my GED in 07 and I was told I needed college credits to join with a GED. I currently have 35 college credits. Can these actually help me earn rank?
When I asked the original question of how to graduate from boot camp a PFC, I was assuming the only way to go up in rank was through hard work in boot camp.
If I want to really shine in boot camp, how can I achieve this? Im usually the one to stick my neck out on the line and take risks, but I dont know how well that would apply in USMC boot camp. Suggestions???
Thanks!

Unless you plan on joining the Army, I suggest you stop calling it "basic" and fix the title to this thread. I graduated as a contract Pfc. from what we Marines refer to as "Boot Camp" or "Recruit Training".

Speaking of earning rank... if you are not in the Marine Corps yet, why does your profile say E-1?

I understand that the E-1 is thanks to the profile changes made by military.com. Maybe you want to talk to the headshed and see if you can get it squared away, Mike.

I have already made an inquiry. The profiles suck.

The way I see them to work, and the way this is prevented is that Marine Corps, Army, etc should only be used by those who actually serve. Ranks show up when any branch is selected AND there isn't any way to avoid having to choose a rank. That implies that selecting a branch should be reserved for those who actually served.

The way I see it, selecting E-1 is no better an option than selecting 0-5. We should not be enabling posers by making them select a rank, when they have not served.

All the other "Status" like "considering joining" or "military enthusiast" and such can still be selected, without rank, IF one selects "none" or "other" for the "Service". When one fill out "their" profile they are being asked their branch of military "service". If they have not served, thier service is "none" or "other".

The way I believe profiles should be used by those considering joining is:

Service: None
Status: Considering Joining

First of all GYSGT, I don't mean to sound like a snotty back-talking brat with an attitude (because I'm not), but I don't know what "zhit" you're asking me to fix.
If you're referring to my profile, I've already changed that.
If it's because I said I'll NEVER join the Army, let me make myself clear... I was not trying to offend anyone with that remark, but I'm not going to kiss azz all day and appologize for what I wrote, like others might. I stand by what I said. I'll NEVER go that route.
I do respect anyone that stands up and fights for our country, but I, however, am not mediocre. I do NOT want to join the Army. I don't want to do what just anyone can do. I want to become a MARINE. I want to be one of the few, the proud.
I do appreciate feedback and your opinions, but I have the right to express my opinions too. As said before, I am not mediocre and I am not average. I'm very intelligent and I have a lot of potential. I would like to serve my country and I would like to do so with the best.
If you were referring to something else that needs changing, I am more than glad to fix it.

If you weren't mediocre or average. You would have said yes and moved on. It's easy to see that the Gunny is talking about your profile. Everything else was uncalled for and quite plainly being a smart azz. The Gunny and the rest of us have earned our titles. You see, your attitude will determine a lot about how successful you will be in the Marines. At this point, your attitude sucks. If what GySgt Irwin says has hurt your feelings, well, I hope you are prepared for 4 years of heartbreak.

I'm not a smart azz, just sometimes hard-headed and stubborn...
and presumptuous...
Since I had already changed my profile hours earlier, I had assumed he was referring to my remark that he quoted...

So... It looks like I made a bad first impression here, and since those are the only ones that really matter I'm just gonna do you all a favor and STFU for a minute...

MzKesiPerez: Set your sights abit higher! Enter MCRD as a contract PFC. Do a STELLAR JOB in bootcamp and DISTINGUISH YOURSELF among the other recruits. There are those instances where, upon graduation from bootcamp, and claiming the title, U.S. Marine, the Series Honor Man being a contract PFC (E-2), gradutes as a LCPL. (E-3).... nominated, of course!

Too much for you? MCRD is full of surprises...
Go!

Or just graduate bootcamp as I did, a PVT and Proud of It.....!!!!!

There is no Boot Camp Hall of Fame, there is no Recruit of the Year, You will get no placks. Once you leave either MCRD you will not be remembered by many ofthose there.

You might get promoted to PFC or LCpl if the conditions are right. In most platoons if your a contract PFC and you merit a promtion then you might get Lcpl. However, most of the time if your selected for a Boot Camp promotion and your a contract PFC already then they will pass that to another deserving Recruit. About 10% of the platoon will get a meritouris promtion.

If your not a contract PFC or get it in Boot Camp then think about Recruiter Asst. I was a PFC 2 weeks after Boot Camp, stayed home for a extra 5 weeks TAD ahving fun with Jody or Suzie before going to my school. After my School I was aked to do Recruit Asst again as they had a Recruiter on a long leave and where busy, another 2.5 weeks at home.

Or you can just wait for your time in grade is up, it's almost a automatic promtion to PFC and LCpl when you have the time in grade and stayed out of trouble.

My 20 y.o. son has decided enlist as a Marine recruit.

Are guys that receive contract promotions after boot camp fully accpted by their peers, or are they like the Army's "shake & bake" NCOs of the VN days?

I'm retired AF and am very proud that my son has the guts to attempt becoming a Marine.
