ok so first off i dont want to sound like an *******, like the only thing i care about is my MOS. i have wanted to be a Marine all my life, and really, i could probably care less what i actually did in the Marines. they could tell me to go into infantry and i probably wouldnt care. its just my parents. they are not exactly on board with me wanting to become a Marine. my dad talks to all his friends and he always has these stupid stories to tell me to try and discurage me from going into the Marines. it is very depressing sometimes, cuz my family are the only people who dont support me. they all think im an absolute idiot. anyways, my parents are always asking what my MOS is, whats your MOS, every day. it is getting really annoying. we talked to family friend who happens to be a marine Corps recruiter and even he said that it could take awhile to actually get your MOS. my MOS request was sent out about 5 weeks ago. still no word. my recruiter said that its all the 'graduates' who have not gotten their MOS's yet. the one guy is getting shipped out in 1 week and he does not have an MOS. so i have a few questions about MOS's...

1. if your MOS request was sent out in July, can you get any of the new jobs that come out in October. my recruiter said i had signed up just at the right time and that i should have no problem getting the MOS that i wanted.

2. if they have an opening for you to get shipped out earlier, and you accept it, can that affect your MOS that you already have?

3. if you sent out your top 3 picks for an MOS and you change your mind on one of them, and thats the one you get, can you re-send the requests out if you are still in the DEP? basically i had a request that i thought was one thing but found out from another Marine recruiter that it is something i would not like as an MOS. so i no longer want that one.

-i am really sorry if i have offended any Marines with my questions. God Bless America and the Marine Corps!

It is possible to change mos's once you already have one. When I first enlisted, my original mos school they found out after the fact was backed up and I would be waiting forever to start school, so they offered me the opportunity to change my mos. It is possible, but it's up to the recruiter if they want to go through the trouble of switching, they might not (since the only reason is because you just don't like your job), so therefore you might not like the answer you get. Your recruiter should have shown you a list of the mos's you qualified for and the one's that were available. Last point to note, there is nothing wrong with picking a job that you want because remember, you will be doing that job for four years. Don't worry you will always be a Marine first and there is always the opportunity to lat move (change mos's). Trust me you do not want to be stuck doing a job that you are going to be miserable at. That was just my input on the switching mos's stuff. Best of luck to you, hopefully someone will come along and give additional info!

Hey like I said that was my experience and I was a good poolee (the four weeks I was in DEP). So it's up to him, but know one thing above all else in the Marine Corps, no matter what you are promised or are entitled to (not including pay), the needs of the Marine Corps will ALWAYS come first. It's that fine black print on everything from your contract, to Marine Corps orders.

It sounds like you enlisted with a little time in the DEP if you dont mind what were your 3 MOS choices??? I can't tell you from experiance becuase I signed up for DEP the day after my Junior year and was that way I could get any slot since everyhting was wide open at that point, but just to let you I am pretty sure no one goes infantry unless you request it...those jobs are easy to fill since there is plenty of people that join the Marines just to be infantry, it's kind of like a dream job for some people. Not everyone wants to join the Marines to be a cook/supply admin but they are needed jobs as well, really it jsut comes down to your asvab scores....the better you score the more oppertunites you will have to get better jobs like airwing/computer networking/intel. Hope that helps.

Personally I wouldn't sign my contract until you get EVERYTHING you want in writing. If it ain't in writing, it don't exist and you're setting yourself up for some pretty big disappointments if you end up in an MOS you don't like. It's always better to get everything up front instead of making a four year mistake where you're hating life and miserable.
