I'm just back from MEPS. I scored an 89 on the ASVAB which my recruiter said was pretty good. I passed most of the physical, but I have an astigmatism of 8.25 degrees (the limit is 8). So i'll need a waiver for that but I'm thinking it shouldnt be too bad. The Liasion said I just need a note from a doctor. Other than that MEPS was possibly one of the most boring days ever.
Intel is primarily collection and analysis while Field Artillery is targeting and actually firing howitzers or rockets.
Don't know much about Intel except for their collection teams that work with Infantry. They tag along at times and interview people depending on the mission/area and then go back to their office and disseminate what they've gathered. Pretty sharp folks.
If you want something outdoors with a good physical workout lifting projectiles and propellant bags then being a howitzer crewman which is known as a cannoneer is a great military occupational specialty.
If you like working with computers then targeting acquisition and fire control is a place you want to be. They integrate different weapons systems into fire plans and control fire support to eliminate targets. Another very sharp group of Folks.
Don't worry about the eyes, you'll do fine as long as you don't give up and do the best you can at whatever you choose in life.
Hey all, I swore in at MEPS today, and chose the MOS 0861- Fire Support Man. I leave January 15th for Parris Island. I'd like to thank everyone who's helped me thus far.
