Ok, so I want to join the Marines, but my parents don't really want me to. I'm a senior in high school and get grades and they want me to go college.
I want to go to college, but college will still be there after 4 years in the Marines.

So, I'm 17 and my parents won't sign off, so I'll have to wait until I turn 18.
I turn 18 on May 14, 2010. I'll be finished with school by the beginning of the month, and I'll graduate at the end of month.

So after reviewing my college choices and most likely deciding to enlist, how long until I can ship to boot camp? If I sign on my birthday, May 14, could I be at PI in June? This way I could graduate in September.

Is that possible?

I'm starting to think it's not possible, because I always hear of people having to wait a couple of months before they ship out.

But then I remember a branch, I think it was the Army, that if you could ship out in less than a month, they would throw $20k in as a bonus. But that is the Army and the Marines don't do much in the way of bonuses, so I hear.

So could I do it, or am I an idiot for wanting to go to South Carolina in the summer?

Thanks

If you DEP in on the 14th and you school ends on friday the 28th of May, you could go to boot camp in theory on May 31 monday, but seeing that is Memorial Day, it Will more likely be June 1. But this is assuming Everything is in your favor, MEPS Clears YOU with out any complications, There are enough schools seats in Boot Camp(yes sometimes Boot Camp does get filled up) at that time, and the MOS School Seats aren't fill up at that time.

Oh, well I may be able to go sooner than I thought.

Final grades and for all intents and purposes, seniors are done at my school by like May 6. Then the rest of the month is filled with workshops, like interview practice, rub elbows with alums, etc... and then we have a formal graduation ceremony like the last weekend in May, last year it was like the 25th I believe.

I could get out of that and technically be good to go on May 14th, but I could of would like to walk with my class, and the extra time to get in shape for boot camp would nice.

But like you said, everything would have to be in my favor.

Thank you.

Corkin....if you are concerned about So. Carolina in the summer...you better reconsider joining the Corps. You ever hear 'Afghanistan.....120 degrees...wearing 70 lbs.'' ? Just wondering.

Oh, I'm fine with it and realize I have pretty good chance of going to Afghanistan, but I'm wondering if it may be better to enjoy my last summer as a kid/civilian, but I kind of want to get it over with, and get my career started.

College or the U.S. Marines! This is your personal choice. 1st or 2nd choice!!! Cool

I Truly Believe, going into The Marines first will be far more beneficial to you in the long run.

Builds Character and Camaraderie For a Lifetime!

Good luck to you,
