I'm looking for some intel on this MOS. For those that are 0302 do you like it, Is it what you thought it would be, and what are your opinions of the job? I have always wanted this, but I have never spoken to anyone about the job that actually had it. So to read about the day to day, ups and downs would be great.

I just wanted you to know I was not an idiot, and that I knew what 0302 was. Also I have no idea what you are talking about, but I never said you did not know what an Infantry officer is, not did I ever imply it. But if I did I apologize

I would like to know what its like being an infantry officer. The routine, what are some of the things they do all day, and the trials and tribulations of an infantry officer.

Sir, from what I've heard IOC is a real good school, too bad they didn't give something like that to enlisted Marines, IMHO SOI is half-assed. A lot of 0311s end up ND'ing Medium and Heavy Machine Guns because they are unfamilliar with the weapons systems, if they taught everyone more than just their specific MOS at the entry level, I think we'd be more productive when it comes to employing the weapons systems of an Infantry BN.

I agree. IOC is some of the best training I'll ever receive. I'm not that familiar with the training at ITB. Is it pretty much just MOS specific? 11's 31's, 41's, etc. do their own thing?

When I was an instructor back in 2001, each MOS pretty much DID do its own thing. However, the new guys going through SOI could tell us how it is now.

Yeah all the training when I went through in '05 was MOS specific. So you have SOI graduates that don't know the first thing about the 240 unless they're 0331s, when the 240 is the number one MG for turret gunners in Iraq. And yeah, they'll eventually learn in the Fleet, but I think it'd be better taught at the Entry Level so its hammered into their heads and they'll retain it.

That's a shame. I'm a firm believer that every MOS should get some time on medium and heavy weapons...solely on the fact that they are so damn fun to shoot.
