Well, I for starters; My name is Richard Coulson. I am 17 years old and planning on joining the military next year.

Now the topic:
I have a Marine recruiter coming Monday the 5th. What are some good types of questions to ask a recruiter during this opportunity?

Thanks in advance

Richard

Since the Military branches all have the same benefits (i.e. Medical, Retirement, Housing), ask him to tell you why you should go into the Marine Corps instead of the other Branches. If you have been doing any type of research on here, you should already know that answer.

"You're part of a brotherhood. From now on until the day you die, wherever you are, every Marine is your brother. Most of you will go to Vietnam. Some of you will not come back. But always remember this: Marines die. That's what were here for. But the Marine Corp lives forever. And that means YOU live forever." GySgt Hartman, from Full Metal Jacket, played by R. Lee Ermey

This cant be said of the Army, Navy, Air Force or Coast Guard. Even though those organizations are the best at what they do, they will never have the camraderie that the Marine Corps has.

I see that you have an Army recruiter coming to your home on the 1st, and a Marine recruiter coming over on the 5th.

My advice, write a list of things you want to see, do, accomplish, be a part of, etc, and ask the recruiters your questions. When they leave, compare your notes on the pro/cons, and take a few days to think about which branch is best suited to YOU.

These are some of the things that the Army recruiter will tell you after you tell him a Marine recruiter is coming over on May 5:

(1)"We can give you $40,000 and guarantee you the job you want, the Marine Corps can't."
(2)"Marines are brainwashed and after they get out they can't function in society."
(3)"All Marines are infantry and that is the only job the Marine Corps has."
(4)"All Marines are on the front lines and the Army is not."
(5)"Marines are racists and don't really like minorities."
(6)"Marine boot camp is hard and their boot camp is 13 weeks. Heck our basic training is 8 week long and you get the same benefits! So why join the Marines when you can join the Army and get the same thing!"
(7)"Our deployments to Iraq are 15 months long, but the Marine Corps deployments are 7 months because the Marine Corps is not trained/hard enough to serve the extra 8 months!"
(8)"You can become an Warrant Officer in the Army with a GED!"
(9)Last but not least: "Rangers lead the way and the Marine Corps follows!"

These are some of the things the Army recruiter will come at you with once you tell them that the Marine Corps recruiter is coming to see you on May 5. Basically the Army recruiter does these because actually they are frankly scared of Marine recruiters! It is up to you decifer through all the BS the Army is gonna throw at you. Keep us informed of what happens!

I see you posted a similar post on the Army Wannabe board. Did you notice a difference when you told them that you were considering Marines? They immediately started blasting the Marines! One even said that we were poorly trained, poorly equipped, and we made decisions based upon emotions that got Marines killed! Another one said that he was in the Navy and lived in a Marine town and he would recommended the Army over Marines because the Army offered better benefits! Basically they just bad-mouthed the Marines because when they hear the name Marines, they (runfuret, ErichG2) became envious. Take the New England Patriots for example, they are the most hated team in football. Some call them old school, so call them cheaters, and some call them braggarts! However, their football history is storied! They built their reputation on winning and it shows! They win championship! People hate it when you are the best and you win because they are not winning! Sure some of their players could have went to other teams and made boat loads of money, however in the end they chose to become a Patriot! Why you ask? Become in the end people only remember the championships you win and not how much money you made! Get what I am saying! The same thing goes for the Marines, we have history of dedication and winning! To be honest the other branches loath us however they respect us. Please believe they (the other branches) will take a shot at us every chance they get! Remember all the branches get paid the same and have the same benefits. But at the end of the day, which title would you rather hold: Solider, Sailor, Airmen..or MARINE! Which title do you think people remember more?

We are not the Army or the Navy, and truely there is a reason why the Marines are the most respected branch in the military.

Be straight forward with the recruiter. Tell him what your looking for and where you are in your thinking. 9 out of 10 recruiters will respect how you are thinking and will work with you to get you where you need to be. Just know if you go with the Marines you will be worked harder, longer and with less tools than the other branches. At the end of the day though you will have your brothers and a sense of pride which to me is all I need to be happy.

That is so true. I was in the Army reserves before I was in the Marine Corps. Army talks sh/t about Marines even when there are no Marines around. It's weird.

I read what those two Turds wrote, and think they are a bunch of homos. But that's "IMO."

Well, the Army recruiter came today. Only a half hour late. Not too bad. He was actually very nice, and gave full out respect to the Marines. He even admitted he would be Marine if he hadn't signed up for the Army first.

He did a good job at presenting his information, and I can't wait to talk to the Marine recruiter on Monday.

Nonsense! They didn't "immediately" blast the Marines. It wasn't even till the last couple of posts that the Marines were even discussed. AND it was after your kind of disrespectful post above about how their recruiters will lie to H3S. That kind of post is out-of-line in the Wannabe forum.

I suggest you get your ducks in a row, before you go bashing another branch of the military.

PS: Both those posters said it was "their opinion" and that they respected Marines. Can you say the same of them?

Perhaps everyone should stick to facts, in advising potential recruits, instead of "opinions" based on inter-service rivalry.
