I'm 24 married and trying to make an informed decision. I without a doubt am joining the Marine Corps.
I have spent A LOT of time looking at about.com and google and am looking for some REAL human experience of people who have been in the field. I understand everyone's experience is different. Thank you so much for your time and I appreciate ANY information you give me. Do you enjoy working Intel? Is it conducive to having a family life, as far as extra hours, training etc? Deployments typical, 7 months deployed, 11 off? Did you see any combat? And I'm not asking for anything classified, but what is the day to day grind like? Do all Intel guys get Top Secret Security Clearance? Is there a lot of opportunity in Intel? After Intel? Thanks again for any information given. This is my first post, so I understand I may have made some errors, I apologize if this is the case. |

Life is what you make it. Is it conducive to having a family life, as far as extra hours, training etc? I tell Wannabes that it's best to not get married, leave Suzie Rotten Crotch back on the block. If the Corps wanted you have a wife they would issue one that did not cause problems. Deployments typical, 7 months deployed, 11 off? You go when and where based on the need of the Corps and your unit. There are unplanned deployments. Another reason not to get married. Did you see any combat? Not likely. You know to much and could get killed.... And I'm not asking for anything classified, but what is the day to day grind like? It varies like in life from day to day. Do all Intel guys get Top Secret Security Clearance? Oh yes they have clerks with no clearances or low clearances handling sensitive documents all the time. Is there a lot of opportunity in Intel? It is what you make it, it's all earned in the Marine Corps. After Intel? You die.... |

Not so excited about dying immediately after Intel. Is that a requirement?

MODERATOR, MARINE FORUMS I'm innocent! I'm the John Boy....... |
Look Dude, I know of three 0231's who are members here. All 3 I call friends, and believe me when I tell you; You have about the same chance of getting a 0211 to post. It just ain't gonna happen. To answer your question about security clearence; You will be required to put in for a SSBI, be ready to go back in your BHG (Brain Housing Group) for the last 15 years of your life. Complete with names, dates, and so forth. You can also plan on a "lifestyle poloygraph". No I'm not going to get into it here! Semper Fi John If you're gonna shoot, shoot! Don't Talk. |

I found a couple posts on leatherneck and a couple here that have helped tremendously. I kind of knew their was a fat chance but I figured it's better to roll the dice.
Thanks for the information you were able to give me. |

My Ex stepdaughter was Army Intel for 8 years, all enlisted and she had a 4 year degree. It took almost 1 year to get her final clearance. Also Keep in mind that you may have the clearance to but do you have the "need to know"? I don't think you can just go into the safe and pull the JFK File and start reading it, you need to have a reason.
