Petty Officer Dean is getting ready to deploy with a Navy Patrol Squadron. My Dad could only be a Mess Cook in WWII, his other Grandfather could only be an Aviation Ordnanceman in Vietnam because part of our ancestry is African. His Mother served two tours in Iraq with Navy Seabees and he is now the first in our Family to be a high technical Navy Rating.
My Son is the only one of his generation to serve in the military and I am very proud of him for making his own decisons. Anyone who has a problem with the Navy goes thru me. He is second generation Fleet Air and will provide all you Grunts with real time data when you attack someone.
So next time you look up when gomers are all around you, you'll see a P-3 Orion on station telling you where and when they are. Chances are Petty Officer Dean is in "the Tube" doing his job. God bless our aircrews and everything they do.

When my dad started his Navy career in 1965, he was allowed the Messman Rating as well since Filipinos were discriminated against in 1965. In the next decade, that ban on Filipinos into other rates was lifted and he retired as an aviation storekeeper.

If it weren't for the Navy, I wouldn't have been given the opportunity to serve in the Marine Corps. Not because of the proverbial Navy-Marine team, but because the Navy offered my dad a chance to leave the Philippines and provide him more opportunities and ones for his then future family.
I grew up on or near Naval Air Stations, and served on one (the sameone as my dad). While I am proud of Marine Air, Navy Air knows their s***!
I knew I liked you SgtLT but now you've sealed it. I remember those days too and was glad to see all rates finally open up to Pinoys. Once things finally open up to women warriors we'll finally achieve a military of the people, for the people and by the people. Hey, as long as someone qualifies why hold them back when they can replace someone else who doesn't want to be there?
