What's wrong with doing the things already listed in this thread? You have my blessing. Now, do it. Also... 1. Do exactly what JimNSC has told you. 2. Do not get spoiled with that so-called perfect push up contraption. 3. Pull ups are worth 5 points each in the Marine Corps PFT. 4. Pull ups are worth 5 points each in the Marine Corps PFT. 5. Pull ups are worth 5 points each... ---------------------------------------------------- Semper Fi, DeepRecon Communications Chief http://www.forcerecon.com/ |

OKay. I got it, no perfect pushups, but do pullups on the bar. I take it I should still do push ups, just not with perfect pushups. Thanks for the info.

eridor,
Try pyramid pullups to help you with your pullups. Goes like this... Do 1 pullup, then 5 pushups Do 2 pullups, then 5 pushups Do 3...... If you cannot do many, go up to 5 pullups, then back down to one. If you feel up to it, go up to 10. This will help increase your pullup count if done every other day. |

Thanks. That sounds like it will work. I will try it. I have one other question though.
How often should I workout? I read, but I was wondering if monday-friday then saturday and sunday off would be good? Thanks in advance to whoever helps me. |

That's up to you boss. Everybody is different. I suggest every other day.
Ask your recruiter, or seek a professional. The answers on these threads are about as good as it is goin to get here. Now get the fock off the computer and push. |

Keep working at pullups, including hanging from the bar multiple times a day. Try the armstrong program. Push ups and other upper body exercises such as dumbell work for arms chest and shoulder should help but the main focus should be repetative pull ups includiing partial pull ups. Keep working at it; they will come.

If your recruiters are worth a lick of anything, they should be happy to assist you with your pullups. They will have a pullup bar available. Ask your recruiter to set up a time 3 times a week with you on pullups. That is the best that I can do. Good luck. |

I just got started two weeks ago after living a sedentary life for the last year or so. Well, good news. I'm not so bad off after all, at least for starting.
I'm running two miles in 16:30, can do seventy-seven situps in two minutes, thirty pushups in two minutes, and seven pullups. Now, not that anyone needed to know any of that, but this all is quite a fancy ruse for a good and easy bump of this to the top of the page. Good luck to all of us wannabes/poolees/manatees out there. |

Hey DeepRecon, I have another running question.
I started running about a month ago, the first day was hell because all I ate before I started running was twinkies and having 3 Dr. Peppers a day. Since then I havnt had any soda. Running is still hard for me, I try and set a goal every day I go out and run, mainly the goal and make it from point A to point B. Ive been doing that for awhile and its going good, but I found a guide, on how to build up your running... Week Time in minutes 1 Run 1-1-2-2-1-1 (2min walk in between) 2 1-1-2-3-2-1 (2min walk in between) 3 1-2-3-3-2-1 (2min walk in between) 4 2-5-5-3 (1 1/2min walk in between) 5 2-5-8-3 (1min walk in between) 6 2-3-10-3 (1min walk in between) 7 4-12-4 (1min walk in between) 8 3-14-3 (1min walk in between) 9 2-16-2 (1min walk in between) 10 20 non-stop I plan on starting on week one tomorrow. I have a workout plan that I do everyday, basically all week (Monday-Friday) I run, and I do 100 pushups, and I am working on my situps. On M-W-F, after I get done with all the running and stuff, I do pullups, I just built a bar and I am doing as many as I can, 2 times. And on Tuesday-Thursday, I do all running, etc, and lift weights. And I dont do anything on Sat and Sun. Now to my questions 1. Would it be recommended to do the week running training? Or would I be better off just plain running for as long as I can. 2. Do you think I should stop running everyday, and just move to every other day? |
